CLA & Body Fat

I tried it with no results. I used the Prolab product. Check out Consumerlab.com. It reviews CLA products. They don’t test if it “works” or not, just if what’s in the bottle matches the label. It costs $15 to join for a year. You don’t get much new info. It just tells you if the products match the label. They won’t tell you who doesn’t match, though. As far as CLA goes, they tested 7 different brands and they all matched the label. AST, Vitamin World, Jarrow(?), Natrol, Nature Made, Now foods and Source Natural all passed.

Joel…imagine someone at their natural untrained weight and bodyfat level. They are stable and haven’t gained or lost an appreciable amount of weight in recent years. Introduce ECA stack to that subject with no other changes. You will tell me that they will maintain current weight and BF%. I say they won’t but will actually drop weight and lower BF% (as scientific studies have proven). I know you post a lot of opinions here but I just happen to think this one is dead wrong. Am I encouraging the use of supplementation in the absence of proper training and nutrition? Hell no. But I do recognize that science sometimes illuminates things that I didn’t think would ever work. Come on, 5 years ago, did you think something that came in a hairspray bottle could lead to seriously increased muscle gains? I sure didn’t but because of studies on transdermals followed by personal experience, I am now a believer.

Thanks, but still, I don’t think that you will see significant, measureable progress by solely introducing CLA to your supplement regimen. Most people have stated they havn’t seen anything “measureably” different when taking CLA on a “hypocaloric” diet.

I stated my views on CLA and other similar products on my very first post to this thread.

What exactly does conjugated mean? Well, it simply means the molecule has what’s known as two double carbon bonds, separated by one single bond. You chemists out there will understand that perfectly, but for those of you who are experts in some other field, suffice it to say that those conjugated double bonds give it properties very different from regular linoleic acid (the kind found in flax oil or borage oil).

Ok Joel, you have called me out on a few of my posts and now I am calling you out on one of yours. The statement you made, “No product works without any change in diet and/or exercise, regardless of what BS study says it does.” is one of the most ignorant things I have heard. If you read any studies, you know that many of them are conducted on individuals that have no change in their diet and exercise-and they have measuralble results. I know that a lot of people appriciate your contributions to this forum and I am not asking you to stop, but please be more careful with your wording. Blunt statements based on your opinions can do nothing but damage your credibility. kent_mc2

I apologize profusely for the following statement:

"No product works without any change in diet and/or exercise, regardless of what BS study says it does."

This is the only time I ever posted a comment of this nature (mostly out of frustration), but everyone wants to throw it in my face. What about the hundreds of other posts I have contributed to the forum?

I know what it's like to have plenty of questions about training and nutrition with NO answers. I still have tons of questions. But I have learned a great deal of information on my own, and have implemented it into my training, nutrition, and supplemental regimen with great results. The ONLY reason that I post here is because I want to help other people. I take a considerable amount of time out of my day to respond to individuals and their questions because I want them to make the same progress (if not more) than I have.

You think I get paid for this? I got plenty of more productive things (from a personal standpoint) to do with my time than to sit here and type out responses. I'm a full time college student and I work part time...I "fit in" the forum because I have a passion to help other people. I could just take all the time I spend each day on the forum to read (I'm currently reading 4 training books, 1 diet book, and countless articles and studies), and further my own knowledge, but I'd rather help someone else.

Why is it that people would rather exaggerate and exploit any little mistake I make instead of appreciate all the positive things I'm trying to do here? Nah, that would be too much to ask. Instead, I have to come home and type responses like these to threads entitled "Who is Joel Marion?" And then I got individuals who flame individuals 80% of the time, talking about "my" credibility? I've never flamed anyone; hate it when others do. I want to help, and honestly, I don't think bull shit like this helps anybody.

Well, I’ve been proven wrong before. My issues are only two (amounst probably hundreds of posts): (1) Your statement against CLA and the studies – hey, a guy asked a question of any one who’d used the stuff, and I just happened to know an example, which verified a study I knew about, so you basically said that either he was lying to me, or that my eyes decieved me; (2) you seemed to contradict your own views. I really have no problem with you personally (these weren’t meant to be flames), it’s just debate.

Tis the nature of the forum. “Negativity breeds negativity.” I have often wondered why this forum is not more regulated than it is, but then again, compaired to most forums, this one blows them away. And I think Joel answered his own question.

It is unfortunate when someone such as yourself who has so much to offer has to take so much heat for honest, well intentioned comments. Goes with the territory, I guess. Just wanted you to know that I, as well as the rest of the majority of T-readers I believe, have learned a great deal from what you have offered and look forward to your responses. The issues that have developed, I believe, are not the views of the majority of the forum users but a small vocal minority posting off base responses that have nothing to offer in the way of any opinion or position on training or nutrition. Debate is only healthy when individuals have an actual position/opinion. Hope you can let posts from individuals with such agendas fall on the deaf ears they deserve and look forward to sharing more of your knowledge with respect to training/nutrition.
