Cinnamon & Insulin Sensitivity

I was reading on PubMed that when they fed the test subjects 6grams of cinnamon there was positive effect on the subject’s insulin sensitivity. I didn’t see much more than that but does anybody have experience with this or have more information? Basically, does it take 6grams with every high-carb meal or 6grams per day to improve insulin sensitivity?

I believe cinnamon is meant to be taken with carbohydrate meals, though I’m not entirely sure. I believe that the dosage in the study you are referring to was a total daily dosage.

Another thing that one should keep in mind while consuming high levels of cinnamon is the source of the plant. Cassia cinnamon (sadly the most commonly found variety) contains very high levels of coumarin, which is carcinogenic and potentially very hazardous. Ceylon cinnamon, on the other hand, has a relatively low level of coumarin. So be sure to check the source before you buy.

I remember reading about this in a few places. Let me see if I can find any references. Starting point would be just to search cinnamon on this site.

Cool, good article. I always miss these good ones and then hit the website when it’s yet another article about DL technique or something addressed a million times. Thanks!
