Thx Lanky. Smoked a Romeo Y Julieta 1875 today. Really liked it. I’ve been practicing my retro haling you talked about I think I almost got it. I noticed a cocoa like flavor in this smoke when I started retro haling. Pretty cool thx. That’s my new ashtray from Cuban Crafters. I also got the perfect cutter from them. You just stick the cap in the hole and it makes a perfect cut without looking. Really like it.

Smoked a Partagas cigar that came with a sample I bought. The draw was so tight it was almost unsmokeable. Cut it short when I smoked it to the halfway point. I only smoke one a week so I was pissed. So I fired up a 5 Vegas and all is well. Bought some fuller bodied cigars online yesterday. Some Diesel and some different Punch cigars. Always wanted to try Punch because Jordan smokes them.
Also bought this travel herfador for when I want to take smokes somewhere. I thought about putting my flavored smokes in there when I'm not using it? Maybe put a boveda pack in there with them? Thought it was a good purchase for when friends want to trade at work I can keep them fresh.

Herfadors are great and generally work just as well as a humidor so I think you’ve got a decent plan.
Sucks about the tight Partagas. Unfortunately, as a hand rolled product, it just happens sometimes. Some people use a draw poker if the cold draw (pre lighting) shows a tight draw. I’ve never had one and just chalk up a tight smoke as a loss. The flip side is that sometimes cigars are so loose it’s like smoking a wind tunnel and that’s no more enjoyable.
In other news, I purchased a box of 50 JFR maduro robustos for $100. It’s a pretty decent cigar and for $2/cigar, probably the best value I’ve ever bought. Definitely a diamond in the rough.
Smoked this CAO America today. It’s a med/full bodied smoke with a Connecticut broadleaf maduro wrapper that’s pinstriped which I thought was cool. Filler includes Dominican Nicaraguan and American leafs. It was a robusto and it had a perfect draw and put out lots of smoke. Really enjoyed it but 5 Vegas, Macanudo and Romeo y julieta are still my favs.

Didn’t get the last sample set as I lacked funds but gonna go for this one - seems good value.

Thinking of buying some of these. Anybody ever smoke them? Besides the badass cigar band it supposed to be one of the better Nicaraguan cigars.

They are decent, specifically if you’re into power over flavor. And if memory serves, they can be had for around $3/cigar if you catch them on sale or on cigarmonster.
Currently smoking a My Father deluxe eminente. Great full bodied smoke.

All good cigars (assuming they are authentic, of course!).
I’ll stress again, though, that most cubans are better aged before smoking. It’s really luck of the draw, those cigars may be ready to smoke ROTT (right off the truck) or they may need a couple years to really hit their sweet spot. If they aren’t quite ready they’ll probably still be enjoyable, they’ll just have a bit of bitterness to them that wouldn’t otherwise be there.

Actually, I’m definitely wanting flavor over strength. I’ve made my way through a couple samplers and so far the Romeo y Julieta 1875 is my favorite. I love the flavor and it’s not too strong. I have yet to try a true full bodied cigar. Any medium strength full flavor sticks that won’t break the bank?

What decent cigars - don’t care if they are cuban or not - are perfect to smoke right away?

Responding to both with a few suggestions.
Jaime Garcia reserva especial robusto - medium/full bodied with full flavor (budget friendly)
Arturo Fuente Magnum R 44 or 52 - medium body, full flavor (budget friendly)
Undercrown corona viva - medium/full bodied with full flavor (budget friendly)
Diamond Crown maximus - medium/full bodied with full flavor
EP Carillo short run - medium body, medium/full flavor (budget friendly)
Padron 1964 - medium body, medium flavor
Padron 1926 - medium/full body, full flavor
Oliva Serie V - medium body, full flavor (budget friendly)
Perdomo lot 23 - medium body, medium flavor (budget friendly)
My cutoff for budget friendly was $8/stick MSRP. Deals can be had on most of those at less than MSRP depending on how many you buy/where you buy from or if you find a good deal on them. Either way, this is a very good variety of sticks that if you’re getting into the hobby, you’ll want to try all of them at one point or another.
Some of my suggestions I included the ring size as I feel they smoke better than the other sizes within the line. That being said, if you’re not sure what size to get, I always default to robusto (5x50) or a corona gorda 5 5/8 X 46). You start getting into the 60 ring gauge territory and it’s like smoking a broom stick.
And just a general note about sizes - the first number is the number of inches the cigar is. The 2nd number is the ring gauge and it represents 64ths of an inch. So a robusto is 5 inches long and 50/64ths of an inch in diameter.
CH - how’s that retrohaling coming along?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will check those out online. The retro haling is something I wish I did from the beginning. Changes the entire game. It actually makes it hard to smoke only one a week. Lol. Honestly I could smoke some of them all day long. Thx again Lanky
How long do you leave your cigars in your humidor to rest before you smoke them? I’m talking about online cigars and what would be the minimum amount of time before there ready to smoke.
Also, what do you think of " seconds " ? I see like rocky Patel, Man o War and Nicaraguan come in bundles of 15 or 20 for a REALLY good prices. Supposedly, it’s the same tobacco just has like color or wrapper minor imperfections? Seems like they go REALLY fast online.

Conventional wisdom is 2 weeks in the humi to get reacclimated, but I personally haven’t had much of an issue smoking after a couple days. Typically cigars are in cellophone, than wrapped in plastic or bubble wrap and put in a box before shipping. Personally, I have trouble believing the humidity in the cigar is significantly changing with all of those layers. But again, that seems to go against conventional wisdom.

Hit or miss. Always a gamble. I’ve had great 2nds, I’ve had unsmokeable 2nds.
Thx again Lanky, I’ll probably just wait the 2 weeks.
Any particular brand of seconds work out better than others? I also seen you mention retailer only cigars?
Also, kind of curious how often you or anybody smoke cigars. 1 a week? 2 aweek ? Everyday? Once a month. I’m kinda all over the place. I smoke 1 2days in a row then none for a week or 2.

Regarding 2nds - hit or miss for me, even when taking into account specific brands. JFR (just for retail) is a brand of cigar, if you’re buying a few singles on your next purchase, a single will cost you around $5-6. That’s about what it’s worth, IMO. I was just happy to get a box of 50 for $100 on sale.
I probably average 3-4 week in the warmer months, 0-1 week in the colder months.
Enjoying this Punch cigar. Full strength lots of smoke and a great draw
No idea why the pick looks smashed oh well
Smoking this man o war double corona with my good friend JohnnyWalker black. Hey lanky, just ordered some oliva v in Churchill. Plan on trying all the cigars on your list. We sight had a 20% discount on all orders so I pulled the trigger!

Smoked the Oliva V in Churchill tonight with some Johnny Walker. Lanky, thx for the recommendation. By far, my favorite cigar so far. I also have Perdoma lot 23, more Oliva V, and Undercrowns taking a humi nap until they are ready to smoke. Thx again can’t wait to try the others
