I second what chris says. Do you really want to wear your sweaty gym shoes for school and work too?

I wear the same shoes everywhere for the most part. I am amazed at those of you who apparently only sweat in the gym and no place else. Last week it got over 98 degrees around here and felt much hotter. Why the hell would I want to sweat all day in dress shoes when I can wear the same Nike Frees that feel better and let more air in?

Doc
My feet sweat normally, but during workouts they’re literally drenched. No way am I going to put those same damp shoes back on after I’m showered and dry. Of course I don’t wear dress shoes.

lol

My feet actually don’t sweat much. I don’t even wear socks in my Nike Frees and I don’t even have a problem with foot odor most of the time. I guess I’m just lucky. I sweat all day long no matter what I’m doing. I WISH I could only sweat at the gym.
Well, I guess I could be like Ben Stein and wear converse with my suit, but I really am not wanting to see if that works for me. Plus I like my Jordan’s and Timberlands to just wear one shoe all the time.

IMHO, I love my Vibriam Five Fingers barefoot shoes… After I got a few pairs of Injinji socks to go with them I fell in love and wear them basically every day other then when we do steel / aluminum pours and I have to wear my steel toed leather shoes…

I’ve had them for 7 months and they look new, only thing is get them a size smaller as they stretch a little after about two weeks…

Stupidest looking pair of fucking shoes I have ever seen. You guys are commenting how Chuck’s look dumb?

BTW I wear skate shoes for deads, frees for squats, and just regular nike shoes for everything else.
I do not see how they look stupid. They look like a pair of socks.

Chuck Taylors. I wore those as a boy back in the 60s. No way am I wearing those cheap stupid looking shoes NOW.

Besides, I squat wide stance and have wide feet, and Chucks have terrible lateral stability. And from some of the pics I’ve seen, very large men look utterly ridiculous in Chucks… kind of like a hippo in ballet shoes.

lol

yeah people try to make fun of me for wearing chucks because they look legit like clown shoes b/c i wear a size 13

i still wear them though, and tell everyone else to fuck off.

im curious as to why people dont wear skateboard shoes at the gym honestly.

they’re flat soled and have extra cushion for the ankles. i think im going to have to start a new trend in gym shoes.

I wear a size 13 also and Chucks over maybe a size 10 just look flat out stupid…like they belong in a circus. I tried the 14’s on once and the sales lady just handed me a big red rubber nose and asked if I could stand outside with some balloons.
yeah Chucks in a big size look like me before i started lifting, really long with no width.

Actually, Live… that’s exactly what I wear. They’re built for lateral movement and are quite durable. At least the leather kind are… not those flimsy slip-on surfer kind.
i have a pair of C1rca’s and they have rediculous ankle cushioning, i bought them just for casual/fasion purposes but i may have to grab another pair just for the gym.

I don’t understand. The whole point of squatting in Chucks is to avoid cushioning and that squishy feeling. Why would you want more of that?

I’ve been using the same pair of chucks for leg days for 4 years.

A little bit of duct tape and they’re doing fine.

Just buy a pair of slip on type shoes, like sketchers or other brand that you can slip off and squat in socks. No one’s yelled at me yet.

Other exercises to do in socks: Deadlift, power-clean, standing OHP (from power clean), bent-over barbell row, anything else requiring a nice stable base.

We’d all be a lot stronger if we’d go back to a simple dark sock and dress shoe a-la Paul Anderson.

lol

Just lift barefoot?

And yes, chucks looks gay.

Vibrams also look gay. They also stink like shit after wearing them for 30 minutes and they need to be washed basically every fucking day

powercleans in just socks socks, on likely a hardwood platform? No fucking way. You can be the next darwin award winner, not me.

i figured more ankle support = better

that way your ankles dont roll, etc.

the point of squatting in chucks is that they’re flat soled, and cheap as shit. hardly comfortable though.

Good point. No, not on hardwood. My gym doesn’t have a nice platform (or bumper plates so I have to use a load I can control fully). The whole free-weight area is one of those rubber floor jobs. It’s nice to walk around on. If I had to do them on a platform, I’d be wearing shoes! Last thing I’d want is for my feet to slide out from under me.

Not true… get a few pairs of Injini socks and then they go back to being like normal shoes in terms of cleaning…

as for the looks part, its personal I guess, but the chicks dig em, they are comfortable, so to each his own I guess.

Are they treated so they do not wear out, with like rubber soles or something?

Well it ain’t quite so hot over here in England, don’t get sweaty feet unless doing some form of exercise over here, and the shoes i do exercise in fucking stink, i wouldn’t dream of wearing them out.

yep,you got there before me.
I have white chucks, but as soon as I saw these in a T-Nation article,I wanted them more than any other pair of shoes or trainers in my entire life.
fuck fashion.fuck whether people snigger or don’t understand what they’re about.
If they wanna know more, fine, its a conversation piece too.
To walk as close to barefoot as possible before evolution kicks in and my fucking little toes drop off.

Does anyone lift barefoot/in socks? That’s what I do. I suppose there would be restrictions on lifting barefoot in a public gym, but I work out at home so I can lift in the nude if I wanted. Which I have done before. Not as fun as it sounds, especially when your ass starts to get sweaty.
that’s what I call lifting raw…
