Chronic Bronchitis - What to Take?

A friend has asked me to post this question. He’s developed chronic bronchitis possibly from 9-11 - he worked close to ground zero for years. He’s been taking advair awa another inhaler brand, and neither seem to help much. He’d prefer some kind of herb. Anyone have any recommendations? I did a google search, with a lot of results. Before I order him something I’d like to know if anyone here personally can recommend a supplement.

Search for the Vitamin D thread on these forums.

Mucinex 2xday, fish oil 2xday, lots of water all day (room temp or warm or hot, because cold can be constrictive)

Oh…and to help things along…any kind of breathing exercise with forceful exhales would be good. Give it a chance to work and keep it up for a few weeks prior to passing judgement.

OK. No herbal supps then ?

I’ve tried the Yogi Breathe Deep tea which is OK and probably has some mixed herbs in it. I’ve taken it with the above protocol (forgot to mention earlier) and it worked great. Hard to say if the tea was a significant contributer or not (?)

How is it different than asthma? (in simptoms and treatment)?

Just curious , what kind of Doctor is he seeing? There’s usually a guideline they follow , either to add on treatment, change treatment ,etc. Is he taking his inhalers correctly? Giving medical advices over internet is never good. I don’t see how fish oil or Vitamin D will help CHRONIC bronchitis. If there is some clinical data or hypothesis i can’t think of , please let me know. There are so many variables to look at that i suggest your friend to take the obvious route and see the doc again…

Saunas and steam rooms and a greens supplement. If his budget can stretch to it get regular detox massages

Also at least for a short time he should try getting his body fat extremely low as a lot toxins and crap that he inhaled will be stored in the fat cells.

@zoo the fish oils will help inflammation in bronchial tubes, I’m curious about the vit D because it might actually make my asthma worse.

What did his DOCTOR advise/prescribe?

Doctors always prescribe Advair and other inhalers if needed, just like the original post said. The other suggestions are good as well (lose fat, get massages, etc), although I’m not familiar with the vitamin D supplement suggestion. Re-visiting the doc is also a good idea just to rule out something more serious like pneumonia.

Bottom line is your friend has to bring down the inflammation (fish oil, cortiosteroids from Advair)and clear the congestion (Mucinex, warm liquids, deep breathing with forceful exhales). Anything else that supports and strengthens the immune system (D?, Airborne) and feels calming/soothing (herb tea, toddies) will contribute.

Chronic bronchitis is a chronic inflammation of the bronchi.
Fish oil, magnesium, vitamin C and D, Resveratrol, cinnamon, curcumin…all those things can help.
