Chris Rock on Racism

Before I say anything, I’d like to know exactly how Affirmative Action works? In employment and in applying to University/College etc.

I know it may appear like a stupid question(plus it’s coming from me…doh) but it seems few people have an accurate picture of the mechanics of it. Especially some of the people on this thread.

Thanks.

Thanks.

My post was right on. If you weren’t whining, then it was bitching like a schoolgirl. Ever heard the saying “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know?” That’s life, regardless of what color you are. Get used to it.

True, and nobody is created equal, ever. A smart person is smart because of his parents, not through any effort of his own. Is that fair? Of course it’s not. So should we give the stupid people an advantage when hiring to make up for it?

Fuck no. Some gaps can never be equalized.

On the other hand, the networking gap can be equalized. So that’s where we are, aruging the merits of doing so.
NE2000 wrote:

Networking is an accepted practice, whether it’s parents trying to help a child get into school, or the black son of a south Houston preacher helping a black friend of his get a job. All the same.

Affirmative action is by definition reverse racism.

Stop whining, grow up, and welcome to the real life. Enjoy.

You’re right, we shouldn’t strive for a better system…just grow up and enjoy your places, peasants…now quit your whining before I stop letting you have my scraps.

You are retarded. Do you think MLK Jr’s kids didn’t get some kind of preferential treatment because of who their father was? Of course they have. Do you believe Jesse Jackson’s fortunate offspring haven’t gotten over along their lives? if not, you’re retarded AND naive. Will not Tiger Woods’ children benefit from their father’s achievements? You know it.

Is there anything wrong with that?

Of course not. Any decent parent will use whatever influence they can to further the progress of their children.

So Bush getting into school due partly to his father’s influence is no different than the above examples. If you can’t comprehend this simple concept, do the right thing and don’t reproduce.

Nepotism is wrong, especially in a society that prides itself on its freedom and democracy. If you can’t comprehend that, stick your dick in your ass…if that went over your head, I’m telling you to go fuck yourself, you arrogant fuckstick.

You DID get sand in your pussy now didn’t you? Go cry yourself a river to wash it out.

Whether you like it or not, nepotism exists. That’s the way life is. Get used to it, kid.

And change your dumbass name, “SlimJim”. This is a bodybuilding site for Pete’s sake.

Try “EctoJim”, and eat more.

I heard it once said, it’s not who you know, it’s that who you know, know what you know. you’re a more established quantity in networking.

Like it or not, I’ll chose someone with a recommendation from someone I trust over 100 applicants who I know nothing about, except for a sheet of paper.

This is how I look at the difference between networking and institutionalized practices like affirmative action.

Reverse Racism is more of a problem now.
In Canada, we have fully supported anyone regardless of race.

Most recently, I was trying to hire new employees and immediately I was informed that my chances of obtaining a qualified white male was slim to none since the government system supports visible minorities. Top of the visible minority list is Black and Indian decents.

This is my second position like this, the first one was 8 years ago where I worked for a company that had a policy that they had to maintain a 30% minority workforce.

No offence, but we had to work extremely hard to find 30% that qualified and wanted to work. Of the “turnover” we had the highest rate of turnover in the minority sector, 300% higher than the other 70% of the workforce.
Number 1 reason for the turnover? The minorities had extremely bad attendance habits.

Just my 2 c.

Who is crying? You’re the one who came up here with nothing but insults. Just cause you speak louder than me doesn’t make you right.

Also, it is pretty apparent that I have to spell shit out for you. I never said nepotism doesn’t exist, my problem is with your solution that we just grow up and accept it rather than actually trying to change things…but then you’d probably like it if everyone was still drinking out of different water fountains and using different schools.

I do like the way you use “kid” and “stupid” to try to undermine my point rather than actually addressing the issue, you’d go far in the current political world speaking on emotional points rather than factual ones. Reflect and redirect, reflect and redirect…kind of a mantra for talking heads like Bill O’reilly and other similar characters.

And thanks for letting me know it was a bodybuilding site, that had somehow slipped past my usually astute realm of perception.

Just what exactly do you propose to do about it? That is an honest question.

I doubt that you can change human nature, so I was wondering how you would do so…

You’re complaining about people calling names when you did the same thing?
emdawgz1 wrote:
President Bush recieved an admission to Yale, because of a preference. Not that he deserved it. Not that he earned it.

This is “networking” its ok.
Someone who was more qualified or deserving was denied the yale education. But this is “networking” its ok.

An AA aplicant to U of Mich law school gets 20 points added to his admission scores because of his race. Not that they deserve it or earned it.

This is “affirmative action” Its an evil, its a quota. Its not ok.

I just want to know. How can my parents network me into Stanford? We will call or speak to anyone, living or dead. How could my grandparents help?

Why is Bush’s preference ok, and mine evil? Why should i feel shame, feel patronized, when GWB feels fine?

Why was it ok to deny my family, basic rights and access to opportunity in the past, yet its wrong to offer a preference to their offspring now?

I dont doubt that some of you will say, stop whining about the past. However, the legacy of that past still impedes many of us today.

You’ll say were equal now just shut up.

Ok heres what i propose.

Lets have a race, 100 yards. You start here and i’ll go 50 yards ahead…ready?

Go!

Not fair, you got a head start!!

Just shut up! Were all equal now, if you dont win it must be a genetic, or social shortcoming.

No, the reason im ahead is because my parents “networked” 50 yards for me.
It’s networking, its ok!;)
LOL, that was an interesting post and use of examples, well done mate.

That’s the problem with Affirmative Action-like programs… you aren’t necessarily hiring the best employees, you’re just hiring whomever is available and just sufficiently competant to do the job.
