Cholesterol in Eggs

I’ve heard a lof of people around this site saying that the cholesterol in eggs isn’t detrimental to health, and is actually pretty beneficial.

Does anyone have some concrete facts, data, studies, or anything at all to support that claim? I’d like to be able to once and for all block out all of those people telling me “cholesterol is bad! Don’t eat so many eggs!”

Cholesterol is not a black and white issue. Theres GOOD cholesterol, HDL. Then BAD cholesterol, LDL. Even then its not black and white, because lots of recent studies are now pointing to particle size of LDL (larger being bad) and not exactly the fact that its LDL being the negative. Cholesterol does lots of GOOD things for us (HDL) like keeping are arteries clean, making Bile which is used to digest fats and producing Testosterone (important). Then you have to consider that dietary cholesterol intake only contributes to about 10% of our total blood cholesterol. With all of the above considered, cholesterol isn’t so clear cut. If you’re naturally have low cholesterol, eating some more won’t hurt you. Eggs yolks DO contain lots of important and healthy nutrients, but they DO come with cholesterol. Your choice.

Good post elusive. I’ve also heard that your liver regulates your cholesterol… something like, the more you take in, the less it produces and vice versa (I think I saw that in an article). Don’t know how trust that is.

x2.
A lot of really helpful info in there! Thanks a lot!

Also, all the studies that have ‘shown’ eggs to be harmful or harmless are pretty much population studies. I doubt those that are telling you that eggs are bad will listen to these studies.

I think you might have this backwards. I am pretty sure the particle size should be larger; smaller particles tend to clump together and clog arteries, whereas bigger particles push their way through, moving the small cloggers along in the process.

You’re right. It is the opposite from which I had originally posted for the reasons you’ve mentioned.

Sorry dudes.
