Cheaper YMCA Membership?

Is it possible to sign up for a YMCA membership in a city other than the city you live in?

I ask because a YMCA membership is more expensive in my city, than the towns near where I live.

I don’t think so. If you sign up in one city, I think you can have like 15 workout days free in any other given city per year, at least thats the way it is around my part of the country. I guess you’ll probably just have to ask them.

In Ontario, Canada I think you can.

I guess you could see if they participate in the “AWAY” program. My Y membership card has that program mentioned as a participant and I can go to the Y at my in-laws in a different state any time I want with that card.

The only difference is I have to sign in each time and the free weight room is small.

Here’s the prices…
In London ON, my city…
The main club is $43.27 with $132.00 init.
The Plus membersip is $65.59 with a $208.00 init.

The other clubs in London are $44.86 with a $50.00 init.

The St. Thomas is $41.09 with a $75.00 init.

Goodlife has 0 init, but it’s $24.00 x2 per month.

So Im not going to sign up at the main Y in London.

Over 2 years…Goodlife would be $1152.00
London Y is $1126.64
St. Thomas Y is $1061.16

What pissed me off when I called around is that one dude that worked at the Woodstock Y said that it would “be the right thing to do to sign up at the club i use the most.” The right thing for me to do is to pay as little as possible and put the cash i save towards supplements.

Clubs have been over charging people for years…is that the right thing to do? In my opinion, weights are weights. As long as the place has a dumbells, barbells and a squat rack, i will he happy.
