Cheap Calories

I’ve recently been trying to put on more size so I am obliviously eating a lot more. Right now I eat a lot of pasta, rice, and chicken, the only problem is that food is not cheap at all. So I was wondering what are some good foods to buy that are cheap and will help me put on more muscle but are not to high in fat?

I shop at Costco or Sam’s Club a lot for the basics like rice, meat, eggs, milk, veggies, and fruits.

Where I live in Cali you can get a good amount of eggs and full fat milk relatively cheap and that’s a lot of calories and protein right there. I always buy large packs of tuna, black beans, peanut butter, and assorted nuts.

Also try shopping for meat late at night, some stores bring the price down later on. I can get a good 4-5 pieces of flank steak or pork filet at Safeway most nights for anywhere from 3 to 5 dollars.

why not potatoes, yam and root vegetable that can be bought in bulks instead of rice and pasta…
Apart from that, milk and protein shakes are the best to squeeze in without much trouble gagging it or cost.

eggs, ground beef, milk (if you can handle it), potatoes (really cheap, you can roast a days worth in about 40 min using the oven), 10lb bags of whey protein, PB, whole wheat pasta.

Fastfood is pretty cheap as well, $/calorie. You can add a spoonful of olive oil to a shake, or blend oatmeal into your shakes to the point where you don’t notice it.

milk isnt cheap anymore,
I go through a gallon a day usually so I get a few 2 gallon boxes from cosco

ground beef
I know people say pork isnt favored but its cheap.
I like buying wholesale beef in sides personally.
once a year 5600 dollars fill the freezer and done

chicken legs is reasonable too

I wouldn’t worry about fat content too much if you’re wanting to put on muscle, it can only help.

i won’t recommend fast food though,
loads of transfat, HFCS…
You can squeeze the calories in but at the expense of your health, which imo is not worth the trade off.

Amen to the olive oil nice fats and only 100kcals per teaspoon.

To get big cheaply you are going to have to eat foods that are generally lacking in “browness” ie pasta/rice etc also you’ll be able to eat a lot because they lack in fibre. Although you get your fibre from veggies and fruit. Frozen veggies are very cheap in comparison to fresh (in the UK anyway).

white rice,
white pasta
meat (beef, pork, chicken, etc mince is cheap)
eggs, the whole egg and nothing but
whole milk,
Mass gainer (generally cheaper than whey)
Frozen veggies
Frozen fruit
Olive oil (kcal/$ is cheap)
Peanut butter (in bulk is cheap)

oatmeal!

Olive oil, peanut butter, Whey isolate and of cource oatmeal those are staple in my diet and there dirt cheap

Why are people saying olive oil is cheap? It’s pretty fucking expensive if you ask me. I haven’t seen a decent sized bottle of EVOO for less than $10.

I guess if you buy “oil” and not read the ingredients it’ll be cheap. You get what you pay for though.

I agree with shopping at places like Pathmark late at night. I always get really good deals on Skirt steak…priced down to about $4-5 a pound!! Plus its delicious.

PB is expensive too, I’d assume you are buying natural PB. It’s like $3+ for 16oz. Cottage cheese is expensive too, you just have to look for deals, I usually find two 16oz containers for $4.

Foods that i feel are CHEAP are something like oatmeal or vegetables.

Yea all I eat is natural peanut butter and I don’t eat fast food at all just because its so bad for you. I am going to costco this weekend to stock up, so any more suggestions. Also do youll really think drinking whole milk is best because it is has a lot of saturate fat in it and I’m trying to keep my six pack.

Ramen noodles and eggs then. You need a metabolism like mine for it to work though. I recommend the two together, its very tasty.

Ah but the problem with oats is that they fill you up, although they are lovely.
