No I havent been, but my info doesnt come from US “propaganda” I am originaly from El Salvador and I know many many people from EL Salvador, i.e.not americans who are “brainwashed”, who have gone to Cuba, even people who were hard core revolutionaries during the war in El Salvador say that they would want to live there. Yes if you compare it to other latin american countries, people do live better, everyone gets basic needs, no one goes hungry, but the great working class “paradise” comes at a great price I think.

I’d say that’s a more accurate picture. It’s certainly not “paradise”, but also certainly not “hell” either. There’s a lot of false propaganda from both sides/ People in this thread have been referencing “blinding poverty” and acting as if every Cuban is scrambling to get into the US. Far from the truth really. They have a system down there that can and does work for them, for the most part. I’d be curious to see what the state of their system would be without our intervention. Typically when Americans point at the Cuban economy, they fail to take into account how much our trade policies play into that.

I’m not saying he was a saint. But Ch? and Castro inherited a whorehouse.
I know your propaganda machine doesn’t agree, but Cuba is doing ok. The population is educated and well fed. Their living conditions have improved since Batista. Childdeath rate is low and they have a longer life expectency.

Oh, the horror ! ! !

And they have been able to keep a powerfull and hostile neighbour out.[/quote]

Kind of like the Belgian Congo?

The salient question is:

What would belgium do?

My new phrase: W.W.b.D.?

So was young Che actually an idealist who was eventually perverted through the fight for equality or did he always have bad intentions? Were they even bad intentions or “the ends justify the means?”

In my opinion, Che had in mind equality (what sort of equality is an entirely different question), but let the means justify the ends, and failed to recognize the natural outcome of his political philosophy.

It has been demonstrated time and time again: in order to impose perfect equality on a group of beings who are born unequal in degree of ability, inteligence , etc, totalitarianism, in one form or another, is absolutely necessary–in no other way can such a society exist for any length of time.
