Storm’s coming in this weekend, so speeding up my schedule, don’t want to travel in that.
Squat
115 x 8
135 x 7
155 x 5
175 x 3 yay, got low on those!
155 x 6
was happy with that. But then this pretty girl comes over and asks if I can do a favor and lend her the block I was resting on between sets. I said sure, I was done anyway, and next thing I know she gives me a warm hug! Woohoo! I like this gym!
Did some leg curls.
Was going to do leg extensions, but somebody using machine, and figured I got a good workout anyway.
Now that the cold bomb has passed, gone back to the gym. Put on an extra pound of bodyweight, must have been the good eating
Deadlifts
135 x 8
185 x 8
225 x 4 might have done 5, but aimed for 4
205 x 6
Seated rows, did some good weight
So last week was spotting another guy on bench, old guy like me. Got talking about my experience at Wenning’s and my difficulty at getting strong. So guy got talking to the trainers at the gym. I got with one of them today and he agreed to work with me on bench on Friday. Wish me luck.
Hi all, I posted a few times in the over 35’s a few years ago and its great to see some familiar faces! Cav, it’s a credit to you that you’re still working hard. In my opinion at this age its way, way more important to just keep going than anything else; does the weight on the bar increase? Does your bodyweight increase? is your form perfect? Who cares? Theyre not as important as just keeping going! well done man!
Albino, thanks.
bluebrasil, trying to remember you, Thanks. I suppose at my age I should be happy just to be lifting at all, but just can’t lose the need for more.
Okay. So started a training program at the gym. Guy is very enthusiastic, very helpful. Occasionally competes in bodybuilding. So we did a bench session today. I went over what I’ve been doing (basic powerlifting split), my scoliosis, and so on. He understands I want to build up, he says I can do that and probably lose a bit of fat in the process.
Bench we didn’t go over 95 lbs. He liked my form, tweaked a bit. Shoulder not too bad, could get bar all the way to chest. He had me go to chest, up a couple inches, pause, then lock out. Wow, that’s tough. Went down to 75, repeat. Then finished with straight reps. Chest really feeling it at the end.
Then off to the mat. Floor presses with DB, 22 lbs. Easy peasy. Some tri kickbacks. Talking about my scoliosis, had me do some birddogs. Been a while, but easy. It all seemed easy, but still had me panting.
He says the birddogs would make a great warmup and after lifting do some cardio.
Signed up for once a week (what, I’m made of money?) Told him I would do deadlifts over the weekend, last time 225 for 4. He said do 135 for 12 - 15. He says work on the foundation.
He took my bodyfat with some gizmo. It was higher than I expected, wah, but he it was way better than most people.
Second day with trainer. Did legs. Man, he pushed me.

Spotty since july… 2 injuries on top of life’s mileage.
I’m synthetic by necessity. Waiting to hear from insurance company about growth hormone, but that’s not to grow just to have a normal lifespan. they’ve denied already…
You could be at your genetic optimum… or maybe your levels aren’t up to your goals? Oddly 20 year old’s are testing in what would have been the 70 year old’s ranges just a few generations ago.
Lots of us are built for different things. I’m built for pulling stumps. Too bad, my favorite sport is bicycling. Well, I can go downhill real fast. My SO is built for massive systemic energy expenditures. Think digging potatoes in the freezing rain. Made for a hell of a long distance riding partner…
