Cavalier's Here

Did anyone catch that article on warm-ups killing your workout by Thibaudeau? You know, do too much and it’s not only a waste of time but actually hurts your workout? Well, under The Thibaudeau Warm Up he mentions some warm ups we should do, like the Wenning Warm-Up. Excuse me? Matt Wenning’s warm-up??? Folks, I spent a whole year training under Wenning and his idea of warm-up is. Load up a sled with 300 lbs. Drag sled up and down the sidewalk for 20 minutes. Drop at the end and gasp and hyperventilate for 10 minutes. And then the workout starts. And Thibaudeau uses this as an example of “don’t do too much”? Seriously???

This is why I say the bigger and stronger they come, the dumber they are.

Did some benching. Did some dips.

Did some bench stuff. 65 pounds, 95 pounds, 115. Tried a 125 for a single, felt pretty good. So put on a plate for 135 pounds. Got it down, touched chest, lifted off -
and it stopped.
I strained at it. Barely moved, then stopped. Gave it more than I had. Barely moved, then stopped. Kept pushing, finally got it on the rack.

Nobody around, no spot, came this close to everything dropping on my face.

Did some machine rows, then went home.

But you DID get it! Way to go!

Maybe so, but Chicken after 45 years of lifting to get as strong as possible I really shouldn’t be having this trouble with one plate. If I was struggling with 400 pounds, I’d feel great, but this is all I’ve ever got in my life.

Well, another pointless session. Bench. Got up to 115 lbs. Could barely do 3 reps. Rest, do another 3 reps. Lost count of how many sets, just kept at it. Really straining.

Also did some leg presses.

Gym was busy. five deadlift stations, 4 in use. Walked to the empty and 10 feet from it another guy got to it first. So waited and waiting. Finally another one opened up, and as I walked to it, my bladder started yelling. (Jeez, I hate old age). Waited more.

Finally got to one. Good workout. 185 lbs x 8. 205 x 4. Wanted to do arm curls or something but ran out of time.

in the middle of this, the gal in the next station came over and said I was doing them wrong. I said my scoliosis makes me do these things funny. “Well, I don’t want you to get back pain” Maybe I should go around and criticize everyone, seems to be the hot thing.
