I ask but have not recieved an answer, either by those here, or in real life: If the Catholic Church is not the first church…then which one is? Which denomination holds to the original doctrines of the early church?
This question, along with where we got the Bible…REALLY got me thinking, and yes…has me on the brink of being Catholic.

“There is no difference between a Protestant arguing over Catholicismâ??s interpretation of the Bible, with a Protestant arguing over Mormonismâ??s interpretation of the Book of Mormon, and a Protestant arguing over Islamâ??s interpretation of the Koran.” - Patrick Vandapool
Telling Mark Twain what Adventures of Huckleberry Finn means is a little disingenuous and at most absurd.

According to one of our posters here, the original church is the Eastern Orthodox church and and the Catholic church is a breakaway.
According to Mormons, the original church was taken from the earth due to apostasy, but was restored in its fulness in the latter days.
Everyone claims to be the real church of Christ, but logically not everyone can be right (and in fact none may be right).

The RCC has the history and the scripture to back it up. You have to change history to make it not true. He’s not asking ‘real’ he is asking ‘first’…It doesn’t matter if you think one church or the other is the ‘real’ church. You cannot deny the RCC is the first with out being ignorant or disingenuous, we are the only ones who can historically trace out roots directely back to MT 16:18.
The Orthodoxy does share in the apostolic tradition, but they chose to break with Papal authority and hence chose to participate any longer in Mt 16:18. Though, the RCC and the Orthodoxies share a close an amicable relationship.
What I am not saying that individually our faith is more or better or that we’re going to heaven and everybody else is going to hell. This is a simple matter of fact and nothing more.
I do believe the historical facts do lend strength to the validity and ‘realness’ of the RCC. The RCC would have no name should there not have been break aways.

That’s because it is the first. Like I told FL, we’re the only one’s who can trace our roots historically and directly to Mt 16:18. To say otherwise is just flat dishonest.

Well if you look at the historical facts…it is the Catholic Church and the leader is the Bishop of Rome.

You of all people need to go there. The whole city is awesome, except for the pan handlers…They are better or worse depending on when the city decides to crack down on them. I went during after a mass eviction.
It’s hard to argue with Rome, The Vatican beautiful city, so much history you can’t take it all in, proper Italian food, hot Roman babes,…There’s just not a lot to argue about Rome…Except the subways…They are dreadful…And it’s expensive and the dollar is worthless right now.

I wanted to go to Madrid (which would have taken me on a trip through Rome), to go to WYD. But, alas no money to spend on that right now. Too busy investing.
“Too busy investing.” ← Ouch…
I will give you some unsolicited advice. The sooner you start to travel the better. You are young and you are not tied down. When that status changes, it’s over. It’s waaaay more difficult to do it later. Right now the world is your oyster open it.
Investing sounds all responsible and smart but the value traveling the world can’t be measured. I traveled a ton, I saw the world. It was the best education I ever had. And it was a absolute blast!
Madrid is pretty cool, the city is surrounded by gates, they used the hang people from those gates. But Northern Spain is absolutely stunning…And you can buy 'roids over the counter too ;).
I think you missed the first part, no dough. If I had the money to go, I would have gone. I’m planning my trip to Rio for the next WYD.
If you want to go, you will have the money…I promise.

How do you suppose I will have the money?
I wanted to go, but I sure lacked the dough to pay for it when it came time to pay for my ticket, hotel, &c.
Matthew 17:

Good job FL…It’s in there somewhere. It’s a tiny little ember, but it burns just so. Let it grow…
BC, if you want to go to Rome, I mean really want to, you will go. When you get your chance, don’t turn it down.
Well…I hope so. It would be a great pilgrimage. Though I am not sure what “freedom” you are referring to in an above post. I don’t have much freedom at all, I was ready to go though.
But, you know life…someone decides to get cancer (most of the reason why I can’t go), someone decides to get fired/retired, someone decides to get pregnant, &c. I’m already paying rent and tuition for a widow and her two sons, now I’m pretty much cash poor for the next 9 months except for my own allowance.

Doesn’t matter though, I’m still joyful.
Jesus would be proud of you I do hope you get to visit Rome some day. Even as a non-Catholic, non-Christian, I was enthralled for the five days I was there, and can’t wait to go back.

How do you afford precious supplements???
You mean beyond milk, meat, and vegetables. I don’t really buy supplements.

Whew! It’s not an Obligation day in my diocese, is it you yours?
That’s good because I can’t make it to mass, I didn’t make arrangements to have Communion brought.

What is an Obligation day?
Ah, now that’s a proper Catholic question!
Holy Days of Obligation are days where Catholics are obliged to participate in mass. Actually it’s a recommended day of rest. I.E. Holy days of Obligation are nothing more than a Sabbath. Every Sunday is a Holy Day of Obligation. Now through out the liturgical year there are several ‘Feast’ or celebration days also included in the Holy Days of Obligation. Christmas and Easter are obvious ones. But there are others through out the year, like All Saints/ All Souls day, Feast of the Immaculate Conception, or like today the Feast of the Assumption. They are a Sabbaths to celebrate stuff. Each Bishop for each diocese can decide if Holy Day mass mass is mandatory or not.
