Whew! It’s not an Obligation day in my diocese, is it you yours?
That’s good because I can’t make it to mass, I didn’t make arrangements to have Communion brought.
Tsk tsk. And you call yourself a Catholic
I had back surgery, a major one. It’s allowed. I watch mass on TV and somebody from the church brings me communion in Sundays.

It is a Holy Day of Obligation, but most Dioceses in America (notably not the NE and Midwest like Chicago) allow Sunday to fulfill the obligation on Sunday since the two days are so close.

Pope wrote something for today, found it fascinating:

Why are so many Catholic priests pedophiles?
method_man wrote:

So many?

You mean 6% of OFFENDERS in the Clergy are pedophiles, is so many?

So, if you take the 4% (4,400) of the clergy between 1950-2002 (109,000) were ACCUSED of abuse of someone below the age of 18 (meaning the victims were 17 or below). Then you see that 10% of those ACCUSED were found to be charged with unsubstantiated cases (not saying they were not guilty…but the case wasn’t strong enough). So, let’s take the rule of law of Mexico, guilty til proven innocent and do the math…

4% of the clergy are guilty of abuse, 6% are guilty of pedophilia, that means .24% of the Catholic clergy are pedophiles…261 priests.

I think there is in fact a different ā€œcrisisā€ that is here that people don’t initially see.

Out of those abused (17 and below), 80.9% of the alleged abuse victims in the United States were male. Wanna guess what sex the Catholic clergy is? Guess what you call a male that practices sodomy on a male?

What is an Obligation day?
Ah, now that’s a proper Catholic question!
Holy Days of Obligation are days where Catholics are obliged to participate in mass. Actually it’s a recommended day of rest. I.E. Holy days of Obligation are nothing more than a Sabbath. Every Sunday is a Holy Day of Obligation. Now through out the liturgical year there are several ā€˜Feast’ or celebration days also included in the Holy Days of Obligation. Christmas and Easter are obvious ones. But there are others through out the year, like All Saints/ All Souls day, Feast of the Immaculate Conception, or like today the Feast of the Assumption. They are a Sabbaths to celebrate stuff. Each Bishop for each diocese can decide if Holy Day mass mass is mandatory or not.
That’s interesting. By mandatory do you mean it’s considered a sin if you don’t attend?

Unfortunately, going into the clergy as a means to repress your sexuality probably doesn’t work much better than any other means to repress your sexuality. Except for castration…I’ve heard that’s pretty effective.

Technically, without a decent excuse, yes.

No I was predestined to have it…

Seriously, it’s genetic more than likely. My mother has back issues so I did too. I never had an injury working out directly. But I was moving pretty decent weights for me…Feathers for Push, but heavy for me so I am sure it exacerbated it, but it was directly related to lifting. Actually I could still lift to some degree. I could tolerate some weight on my back so I would do split squats and single leg DL’s. It made the back a little more sore but it didn’t hurt it per se.
Long story short, It started to bother me a couple of years ago, but I didn’t think much of it because I never ever had any back issues before and I had been lifting for like 18 years at that point. It just kept getting worse.
The main aggravating factor was bone spurs poking in the spinal nerve. But the the disks were near shot too. I said I only wanted one surgery so we did the whole shootin’ match. The discs were going to go in a couple of years anyway. If I am going to get cut, let it be one time.
2 level fusion, L4-S1. Titanium, not stainless steel.
It’s a loooooong recovery. Thank God I can work from home.
I described the journey in a back pain thread in the T-cell. It was a pain the ass. I hate most dr’s. There are a stunning amount of incompetent boobs out there. When you find a good one, stick with him/her.

I know, but I want there to be no doubt on my dedication to my faith. That when I discuss it, I am not discussing it from the sidelines. Hence I felt obliged to justify it.
method_man wrote:

The short answer is that there isn’t. Each one gets a lot of press and if you look at the press reports, they tend to report on the same cases repeatedly, just perhaps new news. Further, a lot of accusations were driven out of money, but the acquittals aren’t on the front page they are on the back, so somebody who glances at the news with really paying attention see’s a lot more then there is.
Now, the fact that there aren’t that many is no excuse for those who did it. One is technically to many.

Remember how last year, the Belgium police illegally raided the diocese repository look for evidence of abuse. I am sure you heard about that. What you did not hear, is that they found no evidence and the case was tossed.
We’re hated and forces in and out of the church are constantly trying to tear us down. It’ll never happen. We only become more humble and in our humility we find strength in the Lord.

The way you worded this confused me too…The percentages of percentages actually make the numbers look bigger.
pat wrote:

Yes, they look bigger, but are actually a lot smaller… 24% =/= .24%

Percentage of priests that are pedophiles, less than a fourth of a percent.

Accused: 1:25 Priests
Of the accused, Pedophile: 1:17 Accused
Pedophile: 1:417 Priests

Accused: 1:25 Priests
Of the accused, Male Abusers: 1:1 Priests
Male Victims: 1:1.24 Minors
