Catholic Q&A 3
Sorry BC.

“C’mon now, give the catholic church a wee bit of credit, at LEAST pope benny tossed the concept of limbo after about 800 years. Now at least the poor unbaptized children are allowed into heaven, despite their filthy original sin.”

Yeah, I read that awhile back…WTF., nobody questions these things, practically NOBODY!
Who is aware? Why are these new ‘rules’ changed and accepted with no challenge?
And why was the old limbo rule even accepted in the first place?

To be fair I guess no denomination holds up to scrutiny…I think I’ll just stay ignorant
of this erudite stuff and just have a basic ‘third world’ religious mindset, just not “think”
or “educate” myself anymore…and just simply believe, and not worry about any new extra-biblical
rules that come out of the Vatican.
There is no limbo rule, it is a speculative theory.

And, though it was Pope Benedict XVI, though at the time he was Cardinal Ratzinger, who shut the doors on the limbo hypothesis it was under Pope John Paul II that the doors were closed.

Brother Chris you seem like an excellent Catholic Apologist.
I’m not, I’d check out the Catholic Answers radio for some much better apologetics. If you’re more of the reading type I’d suggest three books:

Mere Christianity
Orthodoxy
Theology and Sanity (or, an easier read: Theology for Beginners (though it’s not as easy as it sounds)
I think one of the things that disturbed me awhile back was this Priest talking
to a small group of Children, about the importance of a small piece of cloth called
a “Scapular”.
The Priest essentially was talking about how it can take the edge off the suffering
in Purgatory, and even said that people can spend 40 or 50 years in this state.
At least he had the terminology correct, Purgatory is a “state” and not a “place.”
I observed in astonishment…telling this to little kids, how exactly did the Priest
surmise that one can spend “40 or 50 years” there?
Not sure. Probably more of a scare tactic, questionable intentions/bad execution. Hell and purgatory is scary enough to not need to lie about it.
IDK man, I know a number of really good Catholics…real sweethearts man,
but this denomination can be truly scary sometimes, it’s truly a ‘toe the line’
denomination, very strict,
It’s not, there is only one law. Love God above everything and love your neighbor. There is ways you go about doing that, but if we mess up and fail at loving God and neighbor we have recourse to forgiveness. It’s great.

He is a schismatic. I wouldn’t listen to him at all.
, my
God man, according to him, practically EVERYBODY’S going to the bad place after we leave here.
This young Maverick Priest gives no quarter, he even called the last, long reigning Pope John Paul
“antichrist” in his policies, and had some unflattering things to say about Benedict as well.
He’s also on youtube as well if ya wanna listen to his stuff.
Do you know of Michael Dimond?
Yes, I know who he is, I have met him in person. Nice guy, but wrong.

Whew…thanks BC, Michael is scary…I liked Father Corapi, he was cool…til he
fell and probably never gave up the drugs and women he claimed to quit in the first place
When he was outed, or busted not long ago.
Oh well, no one is perfect…I sure am not, I like a little natural “herbal” treatment once
in a while for my back/neck pain myself…heh, safer and cheaper than Pharmaceuticals.

However, on the ‘Purgatory’ subject, How come the Thief on the cross didn’t have
to go to Purgatory?..Jesus said he would be in Paradise with him “today”.
Jesus didn’t even hint of Purgatory to the thief on the Cross at all…why?
'Sounds inconsistent to me.

I liked Corapi’s style, but I was leery about the cult of his personality, the fact that he recognized it but didn’t try to persuade people to stop bothered me some.

There is no condemnation of marijuana, if you break the law or hinder your ability to reason and execute your will, that is the issue.

Not everyone has to go to Purgatory (Jesus, Mary, martyrs, &c.). The final purging is to fully unite yourself to the cross…the Good Thief had done so, the Bad Thief rejected the cross.

Thx, some say there should have been a comma after Jesus said “today” to the Thief,
as there were no punctuation marks in those old texts…those were added later.
A simple comma after “today” instead of a comma after “truth”, changes the meaning of that
sentence completely. It would be like he’s telling the Thief the truth TODAY, but there may
have been a small ‘gap’ in time with Jesus accompanying the Thief in Paradise, because Jesus still
had a little more ‘business’ to take care of on Earth after the resurrection.

Then there’s the controversy as to exactly where Jesus was when his physical body was dead
anyway…very interesting.

No limbo!?!?!?!?!?
What’s the matter with you people?

There is still a limbo of the fathers, but the hypothesis of limbo of the infants is out for the time being.

Is limbo talking about Original Sin? If you have not been baptized then you go to hell? Except for Babies since that is what the Pope has declared?

The Pope hasn’t declared anything about limbo. Ratzinger (before he became Pope B16, him later becoming Pope is accidental) when he was head of the Congregation of the Defense of the Faith closed the discussion on Limbo of Infants.

Limbo of the Fathers was what Christians in the Middle Ages/Medieval times called Abraham’s Bosom. Basically where those who were righteous before the law and those righteous under the law waited for the opening of Heaven.
