Casein Hydrolysate

Can anyone tell me of a good brand of casein hydrolysate please? I have been reading a lot of the forums here and have searched the internet quite a bit and haven’t come up with anything really. Thanks for your help!

MAG-10 sold here is one. There are other stores which sell PeptoPro, which is generally regarded as the best bulk CHY.

Most people on T-Nation prefer MAG-10.

You should also be aware that CH is patented by PeptoPro, so any formula using CH as its base ingredient is using PeptoPro.

Their patents are for a specific process of hydrolysis and debitterization. Not all hydrolyzation processes are covered by their patent and there are hydrolyzed casein products that do not contain PeptoPro brand CHY.

There are a few bulk protein suppliers (which I will not link here as they are competitors) that carry PeptoPro and hydrolyzed casein as separate product lines specifically for this reason.

Interesting. Do you figure there is any real difference between PeptoPro and non-PeptoPro CHY? Possible benefits of either over the other?

I’ve heard that MAG-10 has a higher proportion of leucine peptides compared to standard PeptoPro or other CHY products. There’s unfortunately not an amino acid chart to confirm.

The main differentiation is taste - MAG-10 and PeptoPro are both far better tasting than the non-debitterized CHY lines. There may also be differences in solubility (dependent on the degree of hydrolysis) but I’ve not seen any articles or comparisons to be able to confirm that.

Would make sense. From the impression I’ve always got, if there’s a tweak that would make a product even slightly better Tim Patterson would implement it.

I stand corrected, in that case. Thanks for pointing that out. I do recall when Biotest formulas first came out they disclosed their CH was PeptoPro, albeit ‘leucine-enriched’. I am unaware if the revised formula is the same. Perhaps a Moderator could respond to this?

Thank you all for the info. I was aware of MAG-10 and read a little on the PeptoPro. I was just looking for a cheaper way to try and save some money while on a tight budget. MAG-10 it is! Thanks again!

If I’m not mistaken, I think what they actually said was that their CH was made by the same guys as PeptoPro, not that it was the exact same thing. Judging by the look of the powder, solubility and taste the CHY used in MAG-10 (both old and new) is not the same as PeptoPro.
