The Rambo Lambo.

Originally, built for the US military as a High Mobility Multipurpose Vehicle (aka the Humvee), the US gov’t never cared for the handling of the rear-engined V8 truck. Instead, they commissioned AM General to build the vehicle.

Lambo went ahead and built a civie version called the LM002 between 1986 and 1993. It had the V12 from a Countach and could reach a top speed of 125mph … on loose soil. According to wikipedia, a buyer could spec a 7.2L marine V12 that Lambo used in Class 1 offshore power boats. Only 328 models were made of this oil guzzling behemoth (6mpg) and many found their way to the Middle East. Owners included Mike Tyson, Hunter S. Thompson, Sylvester Stallone, Muammar Gaddafi, and Uday Hussein.
H.S.T. has some great stories about his Lambo in Songs of the Doomed.

The carbon ceramic brakes on the new BMW M3s / M4s cost $15,000 extra more than the standard brakes. Does anyone know the difference? Fifteen K just for nifty brakes is insane. Are they really needed off the track?
There’s little difference in braking ability, ceramic discs weigh much less than their steel counterparts.

Here’s a partial option list - with costs - on the Porsche 918:
918 Spyder Magnesium Wheels $32,500
Liquid Metal Chrome Blue Paint $63,000
Liquid Metal Silver Paint $63,000
Authentic Leather $26,000
Lifting System Front Axle $10,500
Porsche Speed Charging Station $22,100
Interior Package Carbon $7,500
Electric Comfort Heating $6,000
6-point Seat Belts $3,600
918 Spyder Luggage Set $19,900

In 2009 the Nissan GTR Spec V came with optional ceramic brakes; they were a $50,000 option.

Carbon Ceramic brakes are lighter, fade heat better, and supposedly last longer and resist warping better, but the stock brakes will stop the car just fine. More importantly, did you abandon the Mustang and decide to go balls to the wall?

Does the liquid metal paint morph shapes and take orders from SkyNet?

I’m thinking of getting the new BMW M4 instead of the Mustang yes. A lot more money but I’ve always wanted one. I haven’t made up my mind yet.

That’s daylight robbery. That’s the sort of thing that really turns me against a company.

The stripes on the 458 Speciale are $12,000 (AU19,000).

List of other options: http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2014/ferrari/458_speciale/base_coupe/313/packages_options/

Carbon fiber fuel cap $2,000
Carbon fiber engine cover $8,000
Colored seat belts $1,000

Every time I’ve been to the Heritage golf tournament at Hilton Head Island I see one in silver. Always wanted to see Bill Murray chase a groundhog across the greens in it!

Yes maybe. I’ve got to look at serving costs though. Brake pads on my Commodore cost about $300. What are BMW going to charge for something like that? I’ll look at maintenance costs and insurance, luxury car taxes and a few other things before I decide. I might be better off with the Mustang in many ways.

Unfortunately no. Here in Australia I’m looking at around 190,000+ for the M4. US and Aus dollar are roughly at parity so that’s basically paying well over double here.

BTW, anyone seen the colour schemes? Hard to pass up black on an M4 but the Yas Marina blue looks nice. It’s close to duck egg blue which I’ve always liked and it looks great with beige leather and ash wood console interior.

This is the yas marina blue. It’s hard to get a good sense of it from pictures because they all look different depending on the light. It looks much darker than is in this photo. It’s actually more of a baby blue / powder blue / duck egg blue / King George blue sort of colour with a metallic hue. I think it’s one of those colours you either love or hate but I think it’s growing on me. As I said, it looks great with the beige leather and ash console interior. Very classy.

This picture brings out the colour more accurately and you can see it’s a lighter, almost baby blue. You can just get a glimpse of the beige leather interior and I think the blonde ash wood console would compliment perfectly. Any thoughts?

Black.

If blue, I’m not a fan of baby blue.

I like this blue:

Or better still Monoco Blue:

But fuck, its your $200,000k. Make sure you love, love, love the color.

They aren’t offering many colours;

It’s hard to get a good feel for the car on the internet. I see 3 distinct different shades of blue being called Yas Marina Blue. One is the subdued blue in SM’s first post, another is a powder blue as shown in his second, and a third reminds me of the Laguna Seca Blue BMW used on the 2001 M3.

It really comes down to personal opinion. It’s like choosing between Porsche’s Mexico Blue and Riviera Blue.

My general preference is Black first, then Silver for a sports sedan/coupe. But I gotta admit the more I look at the blue in SM’s picture the more its growing on me. Bottom line is a new M4 is gonna be fucking awesome.

Someone - it may have been Jeremy Clarkson - joked that the typical German color offerings tend to be 7 different shades of silver and red.

Austin Yellow reminds me a lot of the Phoenix Yellow that was available on the E46 M3.

Sakhir Orange is an interesting colors.

White cars are starting to grow on me. Both Maserati and MB make really nice whites.
