I’m not saying the new performance cars are bad, they are technological wonders. blow the doors off the one’s I mentioned. I just love the look of the 60s and 70s, especially the old “Muscle” cars.

cool for a vette, the new stingray is grotesque looking.
Funny you say that. The new 'vette is the only one I have ever liked. The Z06 looks like it is going to give a lot of cars two or three times the price tag a run for their money whether it’s a straight line or around a track.
The Hennesey Venom GT, while not being 100% American in my opinion, recently set the world’s fastest “production car” speed at over 270mph!
The new Dodge SRT Viper looks pretty impressive too.
I’m actually not a big fan of this look on the new Viper. I prefer a late 90 GTS-R.
That 'cuda is fucking sexy as hell.
My dad has a '69 El Camino I hope to get off of him one day to restore. Right now it still runs but has become essentially his garbage hauler.
These cars are of course gorgeous. But I am betting the Corvette, Camaro and Mustang would smoke both of these… That’s just the way it is now.
of course they would but it isn’t always about the 0-60 time.
“they just don’t make them like they used to”…why would they? They make them better now.
Go ahead and argue about the looks all you want. But cars are more aerodynamic now, which plays a large role in how they look. If you can appreciate speed/efficiency/down force increasing and road noise decreasing, you should be able to appreciate the bodies on new cars.
I think only Ford and (I can’t belive I’m saying this) Dodge are making nice cars these days in the States. I used to be a huge Chevy guy but none of their styling sits with me nicely. The new Vette, I don’t know… The C6 was so gorgeous but the 7 is just kind of ghastly even if it is cool looking. Dont’ get me started on the new Chevy SS styling either.
Ford’s new linup of Mustangs and Fusions are top notch imo. The Charger I also think is one of the most badass sedans on the road, proper family muscle right there. The only downside with American cars are their interiors are still pretty crap compared to well, pretty much everyone.

never said “they just don’t make them like they used to”. you’re not the only one that understands advancements in tecnology. that is not what I and several others are saying.
you’re the one that can’t understand what we’re talking about. I don’t give a rats ass about the aerodynamics of a 59 Caddy convertable, 41 Merc, or 47 Indian Chief. I’m talking about something that reaches deeper than “I’m gonna blow yer doors off!”
if you’re only interested in aerodynamics and power get a Saturn V

Yeah, 0-100 and 0-120 and .25 miles times are also important. As well as breaking distance from 60 and 80. Skid pad times and figure 8’s are also good measures.
But the most important thing is horsepower. There as no such thing as either enough or too much, but that’s just me I guess… Lonely old me, nobody cares about horsepower but me…I care about toque too, don’t get me wrong.

Well that old adage applied in the late 70’s and 80’s. We made shit, absolute shit in the '80’s. It was embarrassing to drive American back then. Again, the American cars were so bad, that it’s still having an impact on sales of American cars today. People are still trigger shy about buying American and it’s because of the late '70’s and '80’s.
Remember the Mustang II? Or this flagship beauty from Cadillac, the Cimarron? What a piece of shit…
Hell, it’s only fairly recently that I changed my mind and bought American after a couple of decades of buying Japanese…
But now I agree, particularly performance cars. They are all around much better than anything old, even in the hayday of the muscle car '60’s. I still want a '64 GTO, for some reason I am really attracted to that year GTO, with 4 on the floor. But the new ones are world beaters. They aren’t ‘just fast for an American car’. They are beating the giants, BMW Porsche, Ferrari, etc. But they are doing it at a fraction of the price.
“Oh but it doesn’t have leather everything!” That’s what you have to tell yourself sitting in your $130,000 Carrara S staring at the tail lights of a Z06 that cost $50,000 less.
And don’t get me wrong, I love Porsche

Of course they do. But we can legitimately argue style all day long.
For instance, a '69 Vette is every bit as purty as anything produced today.

'69 was the last year I liked Corvettes until '83 when the C4 came out. I stopped liking the C3 body when they took the chrome off the front and made it all pointy in the front. I didn’t like the C4 all that much, but it was an improvement. They did stick a 350 in it, but it made a whopping 230 HP in '83, but that was fast for then.
