Cars - American Cool

Exactly.

30,000 is stupid. After materials expense, you’re talking around $600 an hour or so

My cars worth $15,000. Put $30,000 into body and paint and I’ve got a great looking car worth $20,000.

Have you looked into a vinyl wrap?

Guys on the VW/Audi site I frequent have priced it out. They get quotes from $2,000 to $4,500. I could see why someone would want to do it, but I think I’d rather put the dollars towards a paint job.

Although it is an interesting option.

My buddy is a paintless dent guy and he hooked me up with some cash guys who did the hood and front bumper and minor body work (a few dents and what not) on my S4 for $800 and the paint looks better than factory. I suspect if you did some of the prep work and looked hard/asked around you could get a pretty nice bumper-to-bumper job for $3 to 5k, maybe less depending on how much prep work you did yourself and how perfect you want things like door jams/mostly hidden spaces etc. You need to find some guys with access to a clean room who are willing to do it after hours/off the clock so to speak. Most of the labor is in the prep; materials and spraying isn’t that expensive.

Here is a smaller American car called an E-Revo made by Traxxas. I picked one of these up and a few other models and me and the boy are having a blast. (not my video, just an example of the car):

cool as heck. I just checked out the price since my sons B-day is coming up…wow.

Craigslist. I got one used in great condition and a whole pile of extras for less than half. The price is still off putting, but the engineering in these things is crazy and wow, they really go. Its shocking how fast they start, stop and reverse and how much abuse they can take.

Also, there are cheaper models, and the 4x4 short-course trucks also go like a bat out of hell, but they aren’t as good at just running over things.

Perfect, didn’t even think of that.

So this is the owners car? So what’s the plan for this baby? Hot rod, restoration, restomod, etc?

I’d like to see it when it’s done. Also interested in what’s going to power this thing? I assume it’s not going to be weak.

Yeah, that’s the problem. You can go to town on any car but in the end it’s often not going to be worth what you put into it. I have seen so many people put in tons of money into their cars and in the end, it’s still a Civic, or an Accord, or a Sentra.

One has to decide whether it’s a labor of love, or whether you are looking to get something out of it.

My labor of love would be a 1978 Dodge Magnum. It’s not worth shit, but to me it’s a beautiful car and I would love to get one. The problem is, I wouldn’t want to restore it to ‘original’ because originally it was a piece of shit. I would like to take it and make it what I believe it should have been from the factory, but with some modernization. So it would technically be a restomod, but I don’t view it as that. I want to take the look and the lines from the factory and make it an all around awesome car.
That’s my vision. In the end it would still be a 1978 Dodge Magnum and wouldn’t be worth much, but I like the car and think it’s a great platform. I would like to make it what it should have been.

That car is badass. Make a full tube frame and drop the body over it with a Hemi up front. You’d have an awesome $125,000 1978 Dodge Magnum, lol.

I guess restomod? I have a couple more pictures. I’ll keep posting them a long the way.

The engine is already in it. 350 with some extras, supposed to put out 375hp. I’ll see about taking off the paper on the engine this week.

The shitty thing about it? Honestly when it is finished it will probably go under a cover stay in the shop.

Yup, like I said it’s a labor of love. There would be no money in it. I just like the car. In the end, I think that’s the best reason to do it, passion. Take a good platform and make it what it should\ could be. If I were interested in worth, I would pick among the cars doing well in the market.

I don’t think I would have to do a full tube frame, it’s got a full frame to start. Unless I was planning on doing some real racing. But I’d want it to be a street car. I want A/C and a radio. But definitely a HEMI upfront, the biggest one I can cram under the hood without altering anything.

Of course, it’s just a dream I don’t have the money or time for this or any other car. So I like my Mustang, it’s fast, it looks cool and it’s got a warranty and I can drive it everyday without issues.
But you never know what the future holds, once I heal it’s wide open.

Is that a stock color?
