Cars - American Cool

You’ll forgive me if these aren’t all American cars:

Lopey cams and snarling exhausts…I love it.

Is that a stock color? [/quote]

I am not 100% sure if it is original color. I believe it is. started on the wheels today. I will try to get the paper off the engine, it is going to look sick. Red interior, when it goes in. We are blocking it down with 1000 then going to go over that with 1500, before buffing begins.

Those Cobras in the video you posted were awesome.

Are the same wheels going back on?

Yes, same wheels, but the hubs are going silver. I wanted black, but apparently 65 stingrays came with silver

so what do you do? sand? paint? any welding?

I do everything. My main job is quality control and customer service on the rental car accounts.

You made it sound like this is just a temp job for you…what’s your primary field?

What are the economics of opening up a body shop? Any interest in staying with it?

I worked for a couple car dealers which had body shops and those guys were a trip in each one. Let’s just say they wore the masks, but had a snorkel so they did not waste any of the fumes…

Actually most everyone who worked at the car dealers as a career had some kind of vice, or something they could relapse into. Mostly drinking and gambling, but the further down the pay scale you went the worse it was.

Sounds a lot like house painters I know. They’re all addicts or recovering addicts and even the one’s in recovery smoke a lot of pot while working.

I think it’s something about the repetitive nature of the job, “Here’s a sanding block, now spend the next 200 hours rubbing a car with it”. It occupies the mind just enough, but you need a little help sometimes so you don’t go nuts.

I don’t plan on staying in this field. Business Management is my primary field.

I have not looked into the economics of opening a shop. Really there is not a lot of money in it anymore.

I have learned a lot working there, and could restore a car from the ground up if I wanted to. But, I don’t have any interest staying with it as a career.

Thanks for sharing these, it’s cool to see a plan come to life. The paint looks awesome on the pics. Mirrors. I don’t know if it looks that good up close but this car has the potential to be gorgeous.

How?

I don’t see any skid marks. That little car had to be moving pretty good.

Now that truck has a hemi…

55 Bel Air. If I won the lottery, I’d have 2 of these. One would be bone-ass stock and the other would be heavily modded.

  1. I’d probably have 2 of these as well.
