Cars - American Cool

No they shouldn’t have. They had the muscle-car revival beat (Mustang redesign came about in 05, Challenger in 2007, and Camaro in 2010) and a GTO that evoked more of the original design would have been a hands-down winner.

Unfortunately, I don’t think it would have been enough to save Pontiac 6 years later.

That GTO could have been so much more. It’s looks are just so…Pontiac. It looked like it could have been a next-generation Grand Prix.

That said, I’d love to pick one up used.
It’s funny how the best American GM cars now are the ones they pulled from Australia.

They really shouldn’t have put the GTO label on it.
Why?

Cadillacs and Corvettes are from Australia?

Pontiac G8 and the GTO since that’s what I quoted.

Because it did not resemble a GTO in the slightest. There is a lot of love for the GTO from car enthusiasts, and the bland styling of this car left most I have talked with cold.

I dun goof’d
Pontiac going under broke my heart. The last Trans Ams I thought were absolutely beautiful, especially the WS6. I saw a G8 GXP the other day, so much nicer than the new Chevy SS.

My father in law has one of the last trans ams all tricked out with borla exhaust. Badass car.

You know, there’s cars that might be ‘better’ than a 12 year old TA… But there’s few cars I’d actually want more. Those huge unbelievably aggressive scoops on the hood, that awesome LS1 engine under the hood, massive angry exhaust. I get all giddy whenever I see one.

GM killed off Pontiac little by little. Advertising was all but non-existent. Pontiac dealers were phased out and often combined with other dealers like Chevrolet and Oldsmobile (look what happened to the OLds…).

Some of the new Pontiacs were nice looking and if they saw the division as a viable entity, they could have made a killing with the GTO, ala the same way the Mustang, Camaro and Challenger resurgence went.

But you can’t run a division with just one model of car. The Pontiac luxury line wasn’t able to keep up with Buick and Cadillac over the years. They has an out-and-out flop with the Aztec and other forgettable models.

I don’t know about nicer, but there’s a lot of great history with Pontiac. Just tons of cool cars under the mark. I would have much rather see Buick go under, then Pontiac. Buick was historically hit and miss. Some great Buicks, but the last couple of decades have been drab. Buick needs to revive the Grand National. A bright spot in the otherwise abysmal '80’s.

Styling wasn’t great, but it wasn’t terrible either. It wouldn’t have taken much to spruce it up.
We hold the '60’s GTO’s in high regard, but all they were, were LeMans’s with big ass motors in them.
Not many folks talk about the LeMans, but everybody talks about the GTO. I have a feeling that has more to do with the motor than the styling.
That being said, '64 is my favorite year of the GTO. There’s just something about that year that I just love. It wasn’t the fastest one they made, but it’s the baddest ass one they ever made, thinks I.
Just like the '70 Camaro. I love that year with the big open grill. Everybody wants a '68, and they are beautiful, but if I have my choice, I’d take the '70.

Well, actually I would rather have the new Z28 over all of them, but as far as old muscle cars go, the '70 Camaro, the '71 GTO Judge, '70 Superbird, '64 GTO are among my favorites. But the new gen muscle will kick the ass of any of the old timers…Except for maybe the '70 Superbird, that thing is still ridiculous.

50th Anniversary Mustang in Wimbledon White, the color of the first Mustang off the assembly line in 1964. That car was a convertible, though.

Is 850 HP to much?

Nah…

I can’t wait to see the numbers this '15 Mustang car actually generates. Ford claims that the regular GT with the 420 HP Coyote 5.0 is faster than the BOSS 302 around a track.

Then there is a 3000 HP Mustang. That’ll get you on the interstate pretty good.

Steve Morris. If you want to talk about anything less than 1000 HP, he doesn’t have much to say.

The GTO needs a nice set low offset wheels, and something really wide in the rear with a nice drop and it would be sex. The European model Vauxhall Monaro VXR looked soo much better than the pontiac.

Okay, I don’t know the full story on this. A 2013 Hurst T/A. The car is supposedly licensed. It won ‘10 best cars of SEMA’, one of 5 built. This needs to be built en masse. Why did they kill Pontiac?! They could have killed Buick and I would have been ok. I would love to see this go full production.
Pontiac built excitement!

Ugh, that front end looks like they placed a nose cap over a Grand AM.

They kept Buick because Buick has a huuuuge presence in China. GM sold 800k Buicks in China last year and 200k in the US.
