I currently have a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and am in my first year for my master’s. I am completely bored with the academic field (it’s a dead science, and at best just piggybacks off of other sciences), and the career options don’t entice me much.
My question is, provided I decide to do something unrelated to my degree, what are my career options?
I’ve been considering law enforcement for the past couple years. There’s always being an officer in the military. Firefighting won’t realistically happen. I thought about maybe getting an MBA, though I haven’t looked into the type of jobs or what the work is like, but I figure it could be a possibility.
I really don’t know where to look for what’s out there, outside of job listings online. Anyone have suggestions as far as what I could do, or what potential options are, even with a master’s degree in another field?
It’s not a bad job at all, but you’d have to go through OCS and all sorts of other pain-in-the-ass training.
Firefighting won’t realistically happen. I have two BAs so far: Philosophy and Poli Sci. I can’t do much with them, but I love both fields, but I’m a law school junkie at the moment. I was considering an MBA (the school I go to has the #4 program in the nation). I would recommend that, too. I was also considering going after another degree in Economics, one can’t go wrong with that.

Does kinesiology have calculus or statistical work in it? If so go into banking, hell even if not as long as you have a first or 2:1 degree you can get into the financial trade(don’t know the grading system in the USA except your 4.0 gpa equals a UK 1st class degree).

If you decide to go LEO or Mil remember these principles I learned the hard way:
Don’t wait too long, age limits your options…
Like the old US Army ditty wags:“You’ll never get rich, you sonafabitch”. You have to be into the work cause’ the $$ ain’t there, Baby,(but sometimes it’s worth it/
Depending on the situation, you will have to be creative to stay in the kind of shape you may prefer. Stress, bad diet, exercise motivation, long hours will be in the mix…
Be prepared to lose a few I.Q. points. You’ll be dealing with criminals,(and supervisors below your intellectual level) and need to adapt more often than you might feel good about. Unfortunately, part of the territory…
Sometimes it’s worth it, but…Well…
“There is no hunting like the hunting of men, especially armed men, and those who have done this long enough to like it…they never care for anything else thereafter.”
-----Ernest Hemingway
You could always go to work for the CIA. They only require a 4-year degree in literally anything. You can hang out at Camp Peary (Va.) for about 8-weeks and then your off to work as a control agent. From here you get to talk other people into selling themselves and others they know out. Then again, you also use your degree for an inside job with good government benefits. If all else fails, work out alot and be a male stripper…
