Carbs Pre Workout

Would carbs preworkout elevate energy levels? Say a 5pm workout time and carbs at 12pm.

The downside is that less fat is burned, correct?

Goal is hypertrophy, yet want to minimize fat gain and increase energy.

Thanks

Tim

Well after five hours those carbs will have been used or stored up. But yes if your man goal is hypertrophy some carb can help. Go for something complex, like oats an hopur or two prior and then possibly Surge before/during to give that carb boost and well all the added benefit of such a beverage.

You just dont want a big CRASH during the w/o.

Hope this helps,
Phill

I have seen reports of studies that say carbs plus protein pre-workout do indeed help energy levels. However, that is 30 to 60 minutes before, not five hours, by which time it will all be digested, etc.

Yep. About 4pm I get the crash.
My day is like this:

8AM-Spike and (2) serv. Oats (1)serv. Low_Grow!
10AM- 1/4 cup walnuts
12PM- very large meal 60-40 carb/pro
4PM-Crash
5PM-slap my face and regroup for decent workout with (1) serv. Surge during
7PM- (1) serv. Surge
8PM-pro/carb meal (chicken+rice)
10PM - (2) serv. Low_Grow!

I do notice that only pro/fat at 12PM makes no crash at 4PM, but no significant elevation in energy.

I will try some carb 1 hour prior to workout.

I would say 3:30 or 4 then have a P+C snack something complex like oats and Grow! or Cottage cheese, etc.

Then you may try changing your Surge to a Pre/during instead of During Post w/o shake. I have found I really like this do to the energy it gives me for the w/o and then no crash do to me sipping it during the first half of my w/o also.

Basically instead of halting the catabolism after the workout I am doing so during the w/o. I thwen follow the w/o with either more Surge, or more often a scoop of Grow! and uauslly fruit, and some type of grain.

Then will have a nice P+C an hr or 1 1/2 hr after that.

This works for me.

Just experiment and find what gives you the best energy for your w/o. If that means having a post w/o shake pre w/o, so be it. You are better off getting the enhanced perfomance in the gym. Ppl are different you have to see what and how things effect you.

Hiope that helps,

Phill

I have found that oats and a protein shake about an hour before I workout to be beneficial.
