I’ve used Surge post-workout usually, but the Vitamin Shoppe sent me a $25. gift certificate, so I went there to re-stock on protein.
Most of the protein that they had was just whey and had no more than 4g or carbs per serving. I know that carbs are important post-workout. I found a Vitamin Shoppe brand one with 32g protein/ 12g carbs per serving.
That’s a bit better, but Surge had far more carbs than that. Would it be a good idea to just throw sugar in with the powder?
Does it really matter what kind of carbs you get post-workout, as long as they’re carbs?
summary: plain sugar mixed with whey = good post-workout drink?
Thanks
I’ve always believed that, table sugar would be inferior to other carbs PWO. I have seen some recent research that suggest that it doesn’t matter as much, but as most research goes, you can find studies supporting either side.
Table sugar is half fructose, which gets processed in the liver first before entering the blood. This is slower than other carbs that bypass the liver. I use Waxy Maize as my carb source now and it is very inexpensive (especially if you buy it in bulk).
