Carbs Later in the Day?

I’m curious about how to eat later in the day. I don’t understand when your not supposed to eat carbs (what time of day, “later” is very vague to me). Can you still eat carbs later in the day, or is that bad? Would a sandwich be bad later in the day then?

I’m doing SS and right now im focusing on gaining as much strength as possible while not gaining unneccesary fat. (I understand you need fat to gain muscle, I just don’t want to gain excess fat).

i think it generally means no carbs 5-6 hours before sleeping.

Not eating carbs before sleep is for the general american population, not athletes.

Super-brilliant genius Scott Abel discusses that in this article.

I was thinking about this the other day, I basically eat to many carbs so figured only eat them when my body needs them.

I have an office job so figured, eat them first thing in the morning, in the form of whole meal bread with eggs.

Stay off them all day untill my pre-gym meal and then also re-fuel my body with them after the gym and thats it. the rest of the time have low carb high protien meals with supps.

None gym days keep them as low as possible.

Would this work?

yes that is the common approach

No need to have carbs before your workout. Only right when you wake up (i hate when people say morning, like everyone wakes up at the same time =) and the 2 hour window after exercise.

So, would having a PB sandwich be a bad idea? I need the extra calories, and I eat 2-3 of them a day on wheat bread. If not, then I just lost a lot of calorie intake. I also eat 2 cups of rice throughout the day to get more calories. I don’t know what to replace these with though.

Not necessarily. It just depends on how your body handles carbohydrates.

I wouldn’t sweat this, either.

Focus on the big picture by getting you nutrient needs covered then worry about the details once you’ve hit a plateau.
