Carbs in Brown Rice

So I just assumed from what Iâ??d read that the carb content of cooked brown rice was around 23g per 100g (cooked)

But last night I did a quick experiment … I measured out enough UNCOOKED rice to give me 80g of carbs (this is the amount I like to split over two of my daytime meals) … This came to exactly 110g of uncooked rice … I then boiled the rice, drained it and weighed it again and it had exactly doubled in weight, so it was 220g when cooked.

So am I right to assume that in this 220g of cooked rice I still have 80g of carbs ? I assume the carb content of brown rice doesnâ??t change, so if I had 80g of carbs in the dry measure, I should still have 80g of carbs in the cooked measure â?¦?

And if so, it would seem that 100g of cooked brown rice has 36g of carbs / 100g â?¦

Hope I havenâ??t confused / bored anyone with this but I just want to be certain of exactly what Iâ??m getting here with one of my staple carb sources.

The uncooked rice has just absorbed water and is heavier for it. The macros are (effectively) the same as before it was cooked.

Yeah. If you can your best bet is to just measure it dry!

If you need to split it up and want to weight it after cooking, measure it dry first so you know the total macros, then after you cook it weigh it one more time and just divide that into however much you need. Calculate calories using the original dry measurement.

cheers guys, must admit I’d been finding it a bit uncomfortable stuffing myself with a pound or more of rice most days to help reach my carb targets … clearly I don’t need to consume as much as I had been …

So now what I want to know is, where did this notion of brown rice containing 23-25g of carbs per 100g come from ??

I feel duped, lol
