Carb Back Loading 2.0

So I have access to a blood sugar monitor, due to my brother being a type I diabetic. After continuously eating ice cream, strawberry protein fluff, and potatoes for 2 hours (6pm to 8ish pm), I took my BS reading at 8:30. It was 107, 45 minutes later its 83. estimating i took in alittle over 200 carbs, with alittle over 100 grams protein, and keeping fat pretty minimal with not going over 20 grams for the entire backloading session.

Kind of surprised how quickly my blood sugar returned to lower levels. I am already hungry again, which is surprising after 3 protein fluffs which usually fill me up alot. my question for those who have red the book, Does kiefer mention if you should continue making the blood sugar rise, even after you have returned to a baseline type number for blood sugar?

Knew about CBL long before, but being a former fatty, who went low carb, I didn’t want to even try CBL, then I went leangains, Had success and stumbled back upon CBL. Done 3 backloads so far and already noticeably leaner!

didn;t do the prep, and haven’t red the book, but it seems to be working!!! super excited.

Made a mistake last night, having sherbert, looked on the back…HFCS!!! NOOOOO!!!
Im trying to lean out on it. I know you dont necessarily have to avoid fat on the load, but… Ben and jerry’s froyo isn;t bad

The HFCS isn’t as bad as originally stated. But you should check out some of the more expensive brands of ice cream. They usually have fewer ingredients and are more natural. Think Haagen Dazs
BTW I know you started this thread… how has it gone? I couldn’t go through the entire thing do to time constraints…
I’m still checking in every once in a while, but I’ve been working with meadows the past 6 weeks. You can see that progress in my MDT diet and training thread

This was something we were talking about doing in the older thread. It’s cool that you have access to a monitor though. You should experiment with it some and see what it shows!

Love JM’s work! I think I remember you talking about doing CBL with a mountain dog type diet for food options in the back load (i.e. sweat potatos and such). Is this what your doing? Does John give CBL any merit?

I haven’t asked him about CBL. He does hold my carbs off till mid day on off days, and post training on training days though.

Yea, I have heard him say in interviews that he likes the beginning of the day for low carb so there is more fat burning.

BTW at 9:45 I had another 50 or so carbs for ice cream, half bowl rice crispys, and some graham crakers, just took my BS at 11:20 and im at 136…

Ill take it one more time at midnight

I have not seen keifer talk about BS measurements. Buts its always good to have numbers. But you have to remember those monitors arent all that accurate. So i wouldnt base a ton of things off it but of course its fun to play with.

U have a point. Ive done it befre, where it tells me im 65, but feel completely fine. Anywayz, between shitty nights of sleep and eating liberal amounts of carbs im probably not gonna make to my midnight monitoring…

ZZZzzzzZZZZZzzzzzZZZZ

heres to my abs becoming more visible in the morning!!!

Woke up this morning at 169lbs, from yesterday which was 164lbs (I wasn;t flat at this weight) so really kinda amazed of how much water i sucked up. I feel very full, not slobby, but not quite as sharp maybe. Still skin feels very nice and tight.

I been thinking, for optimal glycogen replenishment, wouldn’t potatoes be the best foods for backloads? Hi glycemic, Higher macronutrient, low in fat, and the carbohydrate make-up I think would be superior due to it being almost all glucose, where as sugar would be (fructose glucose) creating a better uptake into the cells…Thoughts?

Although for those who are putting down 700g( ) carbs it may be a more difficult task. I always put salsa or ketchup on mine to make it go down easier.

my days eating yesterday.

would normally have an extra meal preworkout but still getting myself organised from my week and a half of jury duty. Hadnt prepared any meals for work.

8am black coffee
11am coffee with cream and coconut oil
2pm half a roast chicken, salad w/ balsamic vinaigrette
4pm coffee with cream and coconut oil
5pm training with BCAA/EAA shake
7pm 25g whey iso + 10g EAA shake
7:30 500g chicken w/4 pita breads and salsa, 1/4 tub of ice cream
10pm 350g steak with 1/4 cup of rice

which is roughly
160g fat
350g carb
240 protein
= 3800cals
Whats up with the 2 times chicken? Wouldn’t it be better to eat red meat? Or do you switch it up or eat chicken for healt reasons? And i’m getting crazy here because you really don’t eat a lot:D I’m on the AD now for almost 2 months and want to try the CBL later.

I can only start training after 7 in the afternoon, can i still do the CBL?

Baked (sweet) potatoes and sushi rice is my go to for the first part of the load, for this reason. Pancakes and Ben & Jerrys come later

Can anyone share with us what his protein blends are and when they are used? just curious about those but can’t find anything on them

With some modifications you’ll be just fine.

Yes sir, those modifications are in the book. I highly suggest you gettin your hands on it. It’s a great read and lays out alot of complex concepts in a simple fashion.

I much prefer Red Meat, but I eat chicken a bit more now. Mostly because I find it digests way quicker and is perfect pre-workout and post workout, all other meat meals I tend to go for beef. Also I cant go to town and get a decent low carb Beef meal on my lunch breaks at work, which is where I get the half roast chickens from. The meals I cook for work are Beef though. Like today I had Beef in my Red Thai Curry.

I dont eat “A lot” because Im still in fatloss mode primarily. Im hoping to finish soon and to start adding some calories across all days.

I believe that recently he said he’s sort of phased out his daylong blend (Blend D?) saying that it either wasn’t working as planned or that there was no room for it in the plan as everything has evolved. For the most part, he says just use whey isolates for daytime (i.e. Kiefer coffee) use, and then mix with more hydrosylates either from whey or casein as pre/post workout.

Anyone else Density Bulking? I’m curious what everyone’s plans look like when they’re back loading on off days.
