I drive a 2000 Camry V6, and the blinkers recently quit working. Neither the steering wheel switch nor the hazard light switch will activate them. I checked the fuses and the bulbs, and they looked alright. I also put in a new flasher relay, and it didn’t work. I’m not much of a car guy, so my efforts ended there. I do have a few questions though.
Are flashers pretty much universal for cars? Is it possible that I got the wrong type? It fit into the hole just fine.
Do you have any other ideas what could be causing this? I’ll have to take it into the shop I think, but I’d like to get an idea of what some possible causes could be and what type of money I’m looking at throwing down. Thanks a lot!
I just screw around on my own vehicles, mostly stuff from '65-'81. This what I would do:
First, I would have REPLACED the fuse for the turn signal/flasher circuit. Eliminate that as a possibility.
Second, use a logic probe or volt-ohm meter to see if juice is even going thru the fuse box. Also check at the lights themselves. Are you even getting power to your flasher relay? Try to compartmentalize your power problem and work backwards from there. Having a repair manual for your car helps a lot, as they have the wiring diagrams for the various circuits.
But seriously, it could be almost anything and it would be wise to follow Bujo’s advice to work through it systematically if you are mechanically inclined. If not, get it checked out by someone who is. The blinker going out could be anything. Are both sides not working? I had a car where the blinker worked or didn’t work depending on the angle at which you set the steering wheel…

Haha yeah, living in MA it hasn’t really been an issue, but now it’s time to get it inspected unfortunately. Thanks for the advice guys, I’ll have to fiddle with it and see what I can find.

Weird, I’ll adjust that and see what happens.
