Car Love Thread

I was looking for the Subaru Baja and found this instead:

Fiat Strada.

Why o why did they bring the Fiat 500 to the US instead of this one?

This could easily be my daily driver/beach sports car.

And it lead me into this website about small pickup trucks:

This type of car I would not be worry about driving it into the ground.

True. You do lose some functionality of a truck when you lower it though. Say you’ve got dirt bikes and need to take them to your camp site then a lowered truck might not work. It would work well for the track though.

It’s worse when I see the guys at the track with their jacked up trucks and need to find people to help them load the bike. It’s even worse if they’ve crashed and have to do the push of shame up the ramp for all to see…lol.

I really like the panel van idea of yours though.

That was my problem. Too low clearance to go anywhere fun. That and the 2wd with no diff lock. That’s why I’m thinking the crane and 4x4.

I’d do a Baja as well but I’m not sure an MC would fit in back.

Usually only guys (especially the married ones!) like the idea of being a hobo. You’re the second woman who has liked my van living idea. The first being my mom. She called it my snail.

Saved a lot on rent, spent a lot on gas but it was well worth it. Put about 50,000 miles in 2 years with no commute to work.

The one I had was based on the GMC 3500, got 10/15 trailer or not which is pretty close to a stock 3500. The benefit is that you could stand up, there was plenty of storage space as well as good privacy and the ability to go straight from the back to the cab.

I could write a thesis on van living but I don’t want to bore everyone.

I forgot about the gas, haha.

Husband and I did look into a website that did conversions on the F-650.

He likes the van option because of what you said about going straight to the back and also not getting rained on when needing to retrieve stuff from the back.

I also need to be able to go make him a sandwich with ease while he drives.

I think a thread about van living would be interesting.

We did look at links online about that but the people who did it all seemed to be on pot.

If you were still working than that is closer to what we wanted to do.

I think my main concern with van living would be the restroom issue. Due to having different plumbing system than the male I think it would be easier to live on the road and be able to pee standing up.

Or, I could be positive and look at it as more squats for me.

Oh. And where do you shower?

They used to have the Baja only under the name Brat back in the day and it didn’t sell at all. The trouble with that size truck is you’re really limited with what you can load in the back. That and it’s tiny. I’m not sure that I would fit in that thing.

I like the crane idea but would have to see how that could be hooked up to a bike. I’ve never seen a set up like that even at the track and even with race teams so there’s got to be some reason for that.

I feel like everyone living outside of north America who doesnt drive a Skyline/pre-02 STI/EVO is spitting in our faces.

It may be the restroom and shower issue: specially if the woman is still cycling.

I would love to do it.
The less responsibility and more freedom for my hobo the more hubby there is left for me.

But some women do marry for the house so I understand you can’t ask her to cross into another world.
I have an Argentinian friend here living in the US who is a total free spirit: has a boat, a bike, travels and work and has no addictions ( a cup of coffee a day max ) - beach patrol and poll manager - healthy and fit and fast on land and water.

He says every time he dates and the woman asks “where do you live?” and he says “in an RV”, that is it: he is rejected.

The Baja is out of production, I think.
What do you think about that Chevy truck that looks weird? ( I can’t decide if it is “artistic” or utter design fail )?

In the mean time Australia and Brazil are successful with these:

I was working remotely while living in the van.

I’d go to the bathroom and shower at the gym. That means being there almost every day. Hey, not bad motivation! If you had a diesel, you could get one of those membership cards from TA, Loves, or whatever. I believe you get a free shower with 40 gallons. Tell them you have a travel partner and you get two showers. Don’t worry, they’re cleaned after every use.

While the F650 is awesome, it would pretty much be overkill for anything less than a Class C motorhome. If I were to customize something, I’d buy an old airstream, gut it, and do it my way. Toilet and shower wouldn’t be hard.

My next vehicle will either be a 4x4 with crane or a minivan that I can live in. I really didn’t need all the space in the van.

Thank you.
I was going to google for Sprinter when you mentioned on Johnny’s post.

Husband and I were looking at Expedition vehicles/ Earth Roamer website but something more down to earth and more easily achievable like this Ford Econline modified: Our prone paddle boards and surf boards on top and the motorcycle at the back.

I would rather have a nicer motorcycle than spend all our money on house truck that can be taken away by a tornado in an instant.

I would rather have the toys over any house, actually.

Ford has an airstream concept.

I cannot forgive Ford Motors for not keeping up with the GT 40 in the manner Chevy kept the Corvette alive.

I would not mind this FRS, instead.

I see being 18 ( forever ) driving this.
