Can't Lose Fat While on Opioids

Hello, My name is John and I just registered, I have been searching all over for for reasons why I can’t loose fat, I am 53 years old and I had a lay off for 7 months from Dec 2017 to July 2017 and before the lay off was in better looking muscular shape then now, I restarted at the end of July 2018 so it is only 2 months now but not seeing hardly any improvements.

I am on opiods for 13 yrs because of an accident and I have daily pain and nerve pain in back.

What I can’t do with weights I have to use those therabands, I have used these in 2017 also and made good gains…Im sure 7 month difference didn’t make my body change when I was on lay off .

I am wondering if the opiods are slowing my metabolism down or storing extra sodium.

I weight 205 now and I am 5-11 and with watching what I eat and taking more food protein in like chicken, tuna, and red meat, it is nit doing nothing for me…I am medium framed and I want the aesthetic look but cannot get that with my large waist that is not coming down.

I thought I come here to this forum because it is a bodybuilding issue and you guys im sure have a lot of knowledge,.

The suppliments I do take different from last year are creatine, and my usual whey protein, and some pre workout suppliments…I dont use steroids nor do I want to…I dont do cardio because last year when was bulkier was doing 30 min every day and did nothing for me, I couldn’t believe that, nothing.

By eating smarter this year starting at the end of July has made no impact only the 1st month…I guess muscle memory cam back to a point.

I was 215 and waist was around what it is now,38 jeans fit good, 36 jeans forget it.

So thats about it, ither then wondering what I can do to loose fat and maybe have a start of abs.
My current measurements are chest 47, arms 17, and waist 39.

Thank you for any kind of help.
John

I can almost guarantee the opioids are not the cause of your stalled weight loss. I just looked it up and a bunch of different medical journals all said the same thing: the only way it could affect your metabolism is opiates can make you crave sugar and can possibly affect how well your body processes it. (Which would be a “controlling your sugar intake” problem, not an opiates problem.)

The only other thing I could think of is if the opiates are causing constipation, it could be bloating from having to take a shit.

Either way, the cure for restarting fat loss is to fix your energy balance. So either eat less calories, or burn more calories through exercise. (Unless your constipated and bloated. Then pop some laxatives and drop a monster log)

Opiates cause low T.

Hi thanks for your reply, I did read this also, and this is what makes me think is going on, I guess urges down there doesnt have nothing to do with testosterone if it was then I would say mine is a good level. Im waiting on med marij now after all these years on opiods and want to get off these already.
Thank you

Im thinking carbs turn into sugar and this might be a problem also, like I said last year I did 30 min on treadmill after done with workout and still did not lose fat, now this year I am really watching how im eating, lost 7 lbs but didnt loose my waist, I have a fat caliper and after the first month of restarting my workouts after that lay off I went from 26% to 21% fat but stuck there for now, maybe being 53yrs old it will take a long time

No constipation at all, maybe due to drinking lots of water throught the day.
Thanks for your reply
