First, I apologize if this is the wrong forum. Is canned oxygen considered a supplement?
Probably a stupid question. But I see these “95% oxygen” cans being sold. I don’t really know anything about them, but some people said they help then in workouts.
Are these worthwhile to use? How long do the effects last?
Also, what is the difference between these cans and the oxygen that is given by doctors for headaches and to older people that you need a prescription for? Simply a higher concentration or more of it I assume?
There are very limited effects on a few patients , for example with a special type of headache. And even those studies suffer from a limited sample size and short duration.
On normal people, there are no documented beneficial effects that i know of, and no studies done on long term effects whatsoever (oxygen is highly reactive and will damage organic tissue)
Those cans contain pretty much the same (or something similar) to what doctors prescribe, although there may be other regulations for medical use (supplements are basically not regulated at all)
Your blood can carry a certain amount of oxygen, once its saturated (you can gut your blood saturation measured pretty easily, there are even devices for measuring it alone at home, like blood sugar) additional oxygen doesn’t do you any good.
Generally, you only need oxygen if you’re a lineman playing in the 4th quarter against the Denver Broncos at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. That, or you have emphysema.
Okay, I’m being a reductionist, but you get the idea.
I have seen it become popular with SHW in power lifting and Strongman guys but other than that not really… Side note none of the ones using it are winning.
