Yup. It’s a total instagram/youtube sport. Most powerlifting “fans” have never even been to a meet. And, in truth, I wouldn’t go to one to watch unless I had skin in the game. I’ve volunteered to load for 2 meets, and I’d rather do that than watch, haha. At least I’m getting in some exercise that way.

Problem isn't the rules, it's bad judging. In this pic right here the lifter's ass is NOT on the bench. Not even close. I have no clue why the IFP permits this when they are so strict on many other rules. I've been called for ass off the bench in backyard meets no one can remember so to let this crap go at the highest level makes no sense.
Didn’t watch the video but this made me literally lol.

As panda powerlifting said (paraphrasing), biggest issue is people have to get ready for 9AM, don’t leave until 10PM, sit around in a smelly room to watch a few minutes worth of actual competing.

All of this being true, I love powerlifting meets. But then again ive only ever done local meets (40-60 lifters) where the atmosphere is great. Everyone is supportive, cheering and helping eachother out. Bench is the slowest, most boring part by far and thats not just because i suck at it. You can always feel the mood change and everyone perk up once the bar hits the floor.
