Can You Guys Help Me with Math?

alright so how do you figure that out?

cause 180/5 = 36 and thats what i put but i got it wrong.

and 30x5 = 150

so im not sure where the logic is unless its 130x5+30 = 180

30 is right. From the question “find the measure of an angle whose supplement measures 5 times it measure”, call the angle we want “x”. The supplement is 180 - x. The supplement is 5 times the angle, which as an equation is:

180 - x = 5x

Add x to both sides and you get 6x = 180. Divide by 6 and you get x = 30.

As for your other question, if I’m picturing the diagram right, it sounds like you solved it correctly.

I think this is a really good example of what teachers say every day in school. Learn it now so you dont suffer in college. Alot of this is very basic algebra. I would look on the web and try and relearn alot of the basics.

bro, i AM in college. im in a math class that doesnt even count for a college credit though. only the math after this does.

i didnt go to highschool and the last thing in math i remember completeing was multiplication. so yeah maybe this is really simple math or whatever to you guys but lets keep in mind i entered my first semester of community college with a GED and a 7th grade education,

i still managed all A’s…except for math, i got an F lol. but the more math i do, the better i get at it so i cant complain.

also, thanks MarkT. it looks embarassingly easy after you explain it but like i said my teacher has never gone over this yet we have a test due tomorrow on it and as i mentioned ive never done this stuff before anyway.

I know this isn’t really relevant, but why did you never go to high school?

well, i did go a couple months. but it wasnt even the real high school. it was the “alternative” school which was for people who had behavioral issues and such. generally its for people who get kicked out of the regular high school. but in my case i just came out of a DSS program which i went into during my second time in 7th grade after i basically stopped going to school (which i why i went to the DSS program anyway).

so basically when i came out i was “placed” into 9th grade even though the school they had set up at the place i was at was basically just sit and talk shit to the teachers, no one ever did work.

so yea i placed into 9th grade from 7th grade but since i repeated 7th grade the last grade i successfully completed was 6th. so i since i dropped out of 9th grade after learning ummm nothing, got tired of my lifestyle of drinking every single day and doing drugs and getting into trouble with police, etc. basically i decided i wanted to turn my life around and i got my GED and decided id enroll in the nearest community college.

so i got my GED and took the placement exam at the college. i scored very well on the english portion -ive always done well with english and reading. but i scored VERY low on the math portion, which was always my worst subject. in fact i scored so low i was placed in the Mat-090 which is basic arithmetic with the ending stuff being on fractions in decimals - i had to take it twice. this semester is my second attempt at 095; intro to algebra.

the lowest grade i got in any class non math related was a B- and that was bullshit because 50% of the grade was derived from a research paper which i handed in one day late because my printer ran out of ink and i was in such a panic that i didnt even realize to e-mail it as an attachment to myself and print it at school. either way, i got a C+ on it, i know i should have done better because there were people who hardly spoke English that got A’s.

You’re welcome. If my explanation made it obvious, you just need to practice this stuff, you’ll be fine. When I first learned algebra (8th grade), there was something about the basic idea of variables that I couldn’t grasp at first. It pissed me off, I argued stupidly with the teacher. Then it clicked. I’ve worked as a physicist and currently as a research engineer, so a little early trouble with math does not mean you won’t be good at it. I enjoy your posts, most memorably your advice on face-licking girls, that was just awesome. Good luck with your test.
