Can Burpees Build Muscle?

You proved me wrong. That is very cool. I believed what i said then, and now i know i was wrong.

I actually tought fighting is for idiots in my teens. Then i realised how much you have to know and remember on every move, i became fascinated and now not only do i do that, i earn 100% my money in that, so yea. Its cool that ones opinions can change.

Just having a laugh with you mate

100% agree with what you say brother

That’s the matter over now mate :+1:

I will say that I had never done a burpee in my life until about 3 months ago, despite training consistently for the last decade (longer, actually… christ I’m getting old). Now that I’m living in a country where I only have intermittent gym access, I see their value as a conditioning tool when you’re short on equipment and space. Certainly wouldn’t be my go-to choice for a muscle builder, but can they contribute to the cause? Sure. haha

They’re not the optimal route to take however if you put in the graft then you might be surprised with the results

Optimal for who? They seem to be optimal for you. You seem to have laid down more new tissue with burpees than with decades of traditional bodybuilder training.

True mate however I put that down to work ethic

Burpee training gave me more excitement than bodybuilding

If I had applied the same work ethic to bodybuilding as I had burpees then I would have no doubt made better gains

“Liking” this wasn’t enough.

@ChongLordUno would you say one can build like 300lbs lean physique with burpees? Whats your guess on this?
You showed they work well for high intensity cardio, but how about muscle? Sure they build muscle, but…would you say you will be gaining more and more in future?

Fuck me mate I don’t think Mr Olympia could build a 300lb lean physique on a Charles Glass program never mind burpees :joy:

Burpees, particularly ones with high pumps, will lay down new tissue if you apply the graft however they won’t turn you into a mass monster

How many people are turning into mass monsters with a barbell though?

This is the human element i keep trying to talk about. What’s optimal for you, may not be optimal for other people and vice versa.

I think this is somewhat of a trick question because the goal posts change from the question itself to what is being presented

The question relies on what we consider a burpee (which is subjective). Those variations are technically a burpee but technically not one either because they consist of another exercise done more than a burpee.

If you asked me whether the video above could build muscle then the answer is a yes. Not the most optimal, not the fastest but 100% will get the job done with consistency and hard work.

But I personally consider the video to be calisthenics with burpees involved and not burpees.

If you asked me can burpees build muscle without showing me the video I would lean to the answer no. Just because of what I consider to be a burpee.

This is a prime example of an instance where if we were both hard headed we would argue despite being in agreement (about the variations building muscle) because of our different interpretation

Ok, i asked the question stupidly because i lacked time to go into details.

Lets say i can pack on 20lbs more on my frame within whatever amount of time.
I would bench, dead, squat and overheadpress. Could i swap my close grips, inclines, lunges, box squats etc assistance work with your routines and achieve same results?
I speak purely about exercises that are there for hypertrophy not technical work, etc

For example there is 531 BBB which is basically doing extra work of 5x10s. What if we did just bodyweight stuff and we also wouldnt have to take extra days for conditioning and cardio like in 531 cuz we would also have it covered.

Im not asking for a precise math but just your opinion on this.

Word Up Cousin, I seen it!
Like a 27 inch Zenith
Believe It!

I think the key is imposing Metabolic Stress on the muscles, because you can’t get the same Tension and Mechanical Stress as you can lifting weights.

So (maybe) you have to get a nice burn in the muscles, without going so hard that you get fatigued and have to stop.

Could you get more hypertrophy from burpees if you tied off your arms like blood flow restriction training?
