Cool. I am definitely an estrogen girl despite having a very testosterone mindset. All my fat goes below the waist. A bit of cortisol going on there too. My sleep is often lacking.
Interesting articles! Thanks MIM.
Well I was supposed to train yesterday, but realised I’d forgotten to take my washing to the laundrette on Wednesday, so I had to do that instead. Today (Friday) is never a training day as it’s the day I have to be in early at work. So I thought, OK, nvm, I’ll go balls out tomorrow.
Except my colleague came in spluttering and coughing and now my sore throat is back. I hope it goes (like it did last week) and I can still train, but it’s tiresome.
I’ll report back tomorrow.
rest rest rest…water water water, and take some extra vit C!!!
I felt fine to train. I did a mostly rehabby type of workout - cba to go into detail. Took my 12kg (not 16kg) kettlebell.
Did my pushup/swing torture to thing start.
Did some light military presses supersetted with light barbell lunches (started off with barbell behind head - but this bothered my funny elbow so I ended up doing them front squat style. After presses, this was tiring for my shoulders). The lunges were static. I’m really not at all steady on my feet when I do these. My proprioception and balance are shite.
Did some straight leg rack pulls (working up to 4 sets of 5 with 60kg/132lbs - even at that weight I could feel my back, even though I was being super duper strict).
Finished with KB snatches, 10, 8, 6 (alternating arms, so the actual reps were 20, 18, 12).
That was enough to tire me out.
Today’s weight: 150lbs. Aunt Flo is due mid-next week so I don’t know if there’s any water there or not. But I haven’t gained anything, so that’s good.
Big ups to your immune system!
Ugh, your pushup/kettlebell number is killer. Very nice.
And well done for maintaining - yay!
I have a pretty sore butt today so obviously all those kettlebell swings, straight leg rack pulls and lunges really kicked my arse. Good, I need it!
I’ve done that pushup/kettlebell swing thing and its killer.
Agreed – nothing wrong with a sore arse from working it hard.
So, fairly quick(ish) workout today.
Bench:
20 x bar
10 x 30kg
10 x 40kg
10 x 50kg
10 x 55kg (121lbs)
Dumbell Rows:
2 x 10 x 24kg
Dips:
3 x 7
(Yeah, I don’t know why I could only get 7 - probably tired from the benching).
Seated cable rows
2 x 10 x 30kg
And that was it aside from a few hypers and some stretching.
Not having much time to post right now and to be honest, my mind’s not really on training. My elderly mother’s in hospital again (she had a stroke a while back and isn’t steady on her feet - she had a fall and is in hospital for observation) so I have worries with that, and also work again as Jan and Feb results were not good.
Hanging in there though - but sorry I can’t read and post in all your journals as before.
Cal, I’m sorry for your troubles and hope all is better soon with your mum.
That is a fine bench and row effort.
Take care.
Excellent benching!
I hope things with your mother and work turn out okay.
Hey, sending good thoughts your way!
your Mom’s more important than anyone’s journal. Take care Cal.
hang tough Cal…i hope your mom has a speedy recovery. i’m thinking of ya. keep your head up, you will make it. but be sure to take care of yourself in whatever fashion helps alleviate some of this stress…more good vibes across the pond to you!
Good luck Cal and best wishes for both you and your Mum.
Good luck Cal and best wishes for both you and your Mum.
Absolutely Cal, keep your mind on your bigger priorities. Sending you and your mum well wishes! Hang in there.
So it seems as I can add lunges to the list of exercises I cannot do right now. My right knee had been a bit twingey after the last lunge session. Tried them again today and got a pretty sharp reminder. I’ve had this pain before - it’s a sharp warning pain right under the kneecap. I first got it when I was working at my company’s old office, which was up a steepish hill. To save time getting home, I’d run down the hill to the station. Apparently, running down hills is pretty bad for old knees. Stopped doing that and the pain went, but it would resurface occassionally, particularly doing moves like push press which involve some knee bendage but not a lot. I’ll have to keep an eye on it.
Did some straight leg rack pulls again:
1 x 20 x bar
1 x 10 x 40kg
4 x 5 x 60kg
Was shooting for 5 x 5 but my back had had enough by the last set. I tried very hard to keep form as tight as possible, with shoulderblades pressed together.
Did some other hip prehabby stuff - hip pops, clams, hyperextentions, and some stretching. My upper back still feels quite sore from Tuesday, so I obviously did something right.
No workout tomorrow as it’s earlies at work - Saturday visiting mum. Will try to run on Sunday (assuming knee will not object).
So I saw my mum. To hear my dad talk about her you’d think she was on her last legs. Certainly, she looks quite frail and not being able to speak much gets her down, but I think much of the malaise is boredom. The hospital is doing its best but there’s no real entertainment and she’s surrounded by women in a far worse state than she is. At least a couple of them appeared to have dementia. That has to be depressing.
Good news is (according to her) she should be out in a few days. I think my dad will be relieved - he doesn’t seem to handle being on his own at all well. He’d given some prawns to the cat saying they were out of date. I checked the packet and saw they were supposed to be eaten by end of Jan. If the cat doesn’t keel over then he’s probably going to be shitting and barfing all over the house. heavy sigh
Didn’t feel like doing much this morning but I did haul myself out for a three mile run. It was a nice enough day. I could feel the knee twinge a bit but it wasn’t major. I’ll just have to be careful with it and steer clear of lunches and any jerky movements. Foot was a bit grumbly but that’s to be expected. It seems not to like squats and lunges much either.
Right, going to get some breakfast and watch the show I recorded last night.
Glad to know your Mom’s doing better than expected. Is the weather getting better over your end of the pond?
