grovel and then just let it go. people will take offense to the stupidest shit. their problem… but in this case it becomes yours. stupid, but that’s life. some people just can’t be laid back and make life the shittier for the rest of us.
if they only knew the shit you WANTED to say about her. hahaha we can only imagine.
Yea you best get your pencil sharpened up for some real polite groveling. To me the parents ought to have their parenting skills taken away if they are going to get offended anytime a authority figure speaks in a less than appealing way about their kids. If I got upset everytime a teacher said something about my kids I would have had to pull em out of the school and teach em at home. That just won’t be happening!
Bummer that it is, but dont worry when their little princess hits the real world she will be in for a real awakening of what it takes to be a functioning human being.
seems that her parents never really had to grow up, and a shame they didnt before they shat out some of their own.
explain the relationship between humor and affection, because all those kind of people want to hear is that their child is a nice person. fuck all if theyre well behaved or smart, you’re sposed to like the little shits.
Having to write the letter doesn’t bother me, actually. My headmistress actually said she was annoyed with herself for not having caught the comment herself as she reads all the reports first, and said she would have changed it if she’d spotted it. Apparently she did change some of the other reports I wrote because they were too blunt (and there I was thinking I was being diplomatic!) I remember getting a report when I was in primary school that said “Cal leaves a trail of disorganisation in her wake.” My parents thought it was hilarious. I guess some parents now have a sense of humour bypass, or perhaps it is a cultural thing (the girl in question is of Arabic origin). I’m just amazed that such a comment could be construed as offensive.
Cal, I agree your remark is hardly offensive. But, then again, I am frequently criticized for being too blunt. Clown sounds nicer to me than disruptive and attention seeking, which is what I assume you really meant.
yeah, i think some people have a sense of humor bypass - especially if they have certain kinds of ambitions of their kids.
i hear you on the food issue… i was housesitting over the break and the darned people left chocolate in their fridge. the kind that i’ll finish the block if i start. i don’t even want to know how many blocks i bad to buy to replace the blocks i ate… and don’t even get me started on how many litres of ice-cream i ate…
i’m trying to do the Dan John ‘12 foods that if you eat you probably don’t need my advice about nutrition’ (or similar) thing. basically just buying ‘good’ foods and not eating foods i know i shouldn’t be eating. that is hard enough for me. want to achieve some success with that before i move on to more disciplined approaches, though. i just know the latter would involve a lot of my beating myself up (but that could be the biggest motivator for others, to be sure).
Well apparently it wasn’t just me. My friend who teaches drama also camed under attack from the parents because he wrote that the child was sometimes rude. We both had to write grovelly letters but we’re able to laugh it off because that child has now left the school (not because of the reports - she was leaving anyway, which is why the whole thing is so ridiculous) and we won’t have to deal with those parents any more. Not that there aren’t other equally humourless parents in abundance, but at least I met some nice ones at parents evening.
School was quite hectic today. I really needed my foam roller and pain balls when I got home. Feel slightly better now.
I’ve also managed to IF the past two days and haven’t eaten anything sinful, so that’s good.
Lol @ calling yourself a fat cunt! But hoorah for getting on that right away. My subconscious also works out a lot during my sleep - I always find that helpful, since that means I don’t actually have to “think” about things. HA!
Also big lol at “Cal leaves a trail of disorganisation in her wake.” That’s hilarious report card commentary. And I will say, i’m not surprised that you’ve been deemed “blunt”. I find that a wonderful quality in people, since I hate when people talk in maths - just say it sonny!
Like Mainy said, grovel and move on. Obviously its not you so much as the parents.
Yeah, it’s fine, it’s done, it’s Friday night and I can relax for the evening.
School inspection next week so most of the teachers are fairly stressed (some, very). I’ll just do what needs to be done and hope it’s enough.
In the meantime I need to get at least one gym session and run in over the next four days as well as my gymnastics class on Sunday. Right now I feel beat.
Gym today. Free weights room wasn’t too bad when I got there but filled up after a while. The machine room was rammed. So, kept it basic. Holy crap, though, it was hot. Before Christmas it was below freezing so everyone put their heating on full - now it’s relatively mild but the heating is at the same level. I was sweating like a rapist.
30 hypers and some mobility stuff to warm up.
Millies:
Bar x 10
25kg x 10
30kg x 10
32.5kg x 7
Squats:
3 x Bar x 12
Just wanted to see how these felt given that I’ve been working on hip mob for a while. Answer is, not that bad, but my right elbow still hates them. Mrmm.
Deadlifts:
Bar x 10
60kg x 5
70kg x 5
80kg x 5
90kg x 3 (Rep PR for the past 12 months, btw… and if you’re trying to do the maths, it’s 198lbs)
100kg x 1
I left it there. Didn’t even get to stretch because the mats were all taken. Grr. But I did stretching between each set, so I figured that would have to do. I will probably do some mob stuff later this afternoon.
Scale was mended: I am 11 stone 2 (156lbs or 71kg) which isn’t great but isn’t disastrous either. Still have a lot of jiggle to get rid of before I can hack wearing a crop top. Mmm.
i’ve been reading some management books- because i’m a nerd- and I have a suggestion. not knowing what your relationships are like with the other departments or what your goals are at that school/job, of course.
after you’ve gotten your area ready for inspection, offer to help one of two of the others. your boss will hear about it, and any help you may need in the future will come more willingly.
and as for the mats being taken, i am NOT above going to sit down uncomfortably close to other people and doing my thing anyway. either they’ll move or you can have some LOL’s.
x2 to N, Cal always come up with the funniest, most serious shit ever.
Right when I was about to get on ya for not training, you hit it hard in the gym again.
I know school just started though, it’s okay. Seems like you have enough stress from work in the first week!
I don’t know how I’m going to get everything done with taking classes, work, and a comp. Pray, I guess.
156 is a good weight, and I saw your vids, you can wear a crop top now and make 19 year olds envious (namely me). What are you going to do to get rid of the, what did you say, 10 pounds that you gained?
Easy-peasy.
Nice thought, Bear, but it’s mostly about paperwork and lesson observations, and I can’t really help with that (especially as I’m not working the first two days of the inspection - by the time I go back to work on Wednesday it’ll be almost done, fortunatley!) I did help out a couple of classes during the pre-Christmas part of the inspection and I also volunteered to run netball club after school on Thursdays (for no extra pay) so I’m not too bad in terms of mucking in.
Nadia - I think so, but there’s a long way to go. The sciatic pain has resurfaced but it only gets noticeable when I run. I could feel it after the squatting and DLing today but I did some hip mob stuff later in the afternoon and it’s fine now. I think I just need to be quite aggressive with the mobility work. Anyone know if you can do too much mobility? (As in, enough to make the body more pissed off than it was?)
Nikki - my schedule during term time is a bit odd. Being a PE teacher is quite a physical job so I’m bone tired when I get home. It’s also over an hour commute each way. I have to leave the house too early to get to the gym beforehand and when I get back, I just want to sit down and relax. I will throw in some mobility work but basically, Wed, Thur and Fri are workdays and therefore non-exercise days, and I have to cram everything else (weights, running, gymnastics) into Sat-Sun-Mon-Tue. And if I go away for the weekend, it’s just Monday and Tuesday.
Anyway, gymnastics today. We concentrated on forward and backward rolls. And I managed to do a half decent backwards roll, finally! It’s not especially pretty but it’s there. That’s one goal I can cross off my list then. Whoop!
I am having issues with sitting in a straddle with feet raised, mind you. Our lovely instructor has us doing forward rolls into straddle but due to something impinging in my groin area, I find this a real struggle (even after doing lots of hip mobs during the week). Ugh I wish my shoulders and hips actually worked in the way they were supposed to instead of recruiting other body parts to do the work for them.
