Great job adding the lower body work back in.
Rest up!

Rest up!
My PC is very sick - I decided to uninstall a program I thought might be a culprit behind why it was misbehaving, and ended up making it worse. So I’m posting this from school (I wasn’t sure I could, as many sites are restricted from here - but apparently half-naked fitness models and steroids are more acceptable than Facebook). IT guy is coming tomorrow, so hopefully it will be working again for Friday. Which is just well as tomorrow is the last day of term and I won’t have a computer to post on after that.
Anyway…no workout on Monday as I was in all day having a new boiler installed. Tuesday I went to the gym and had a pretty good workout, despite being stressed about the PC.
Chins: 3, 3, 2, 2
Millies: Bar x 10, 25kg x 10, 30kg x 10 (hell yeah!), 35kg x 4, 37.5kg x 1, 40kg x 1 (fuckin’ A!)
Finally got that tenth rep on the 30 (66lbs), so decided to see what else I could do. 40kg (88lbs) went up so slowly I almost didn’t think I’d make it, but I just gritted my teeth and pushed. No knee bend, but maybe some back arch. I got it, though.
Negative Pull-ups: 3 x 3
DB Rows: 26kg x 8, 28kg x 6
Dips: 1 x 6 (pooped by this point, so called it a day).
Then worked on headstand, handstand drills and stretching. I managed two good headstands. I’m getting there!
Today: last school assembly of term and time to give out sports badges. I tried to reward not just the girls who are naturally good and confident, but the ones who tried hard but sometimes get overshadowed. I try to give encouragement to all and I hope this gives them extra incentive to continue being active.
Right, that’s me, signing off until, maybe tomorrow, but possibly Friday.
40kg on a millie is fuckin A all the way (that sounds so sistard lolz)
and I like how you look at things with the badges. personal note: I was the geek who got all kinds of diplomas and excellencies at school. My brother had to bust ass to pass. One year he got “most improved” trophy over everyone in high school. Don’t ask me what my diplomas were. I don’t remember. But I still get teary eye when I think of how shocked and proud we were of him. It probably gave him the drive to push through and finish high school.
Yeah, great pressing!
I tried to do a… I don’t know what it is called. Balance on your hands from a deep squat (on your toes). Can do it (very wobbly for about 5 seconds) if I bury my knees into my armpits. Newfound respect for handstands!
88 lbs! YEAH! That is a major win on pressing.
You are doing great as the accidental teacher. Remembering the kids who tried hard despite not having natural skillz was stellar. My eyesight is rotten so I sucked at all the PE sports at school involving balls of any sort. I sure remember what it was liked to be picked last for any team, so kudos to you.

Lol that reminds me of my mom’s old job that won’t allow you to go to Yahoo, but TN was a-OK with them.
Your upper body strength is awesome, congrats on that press.
I was pleased with the press, I have to admit.
Alexus - that’s called a crow (or Chinese handstand). It’s a yoga pose. I can do those, most of the time. A starting headstand is similar but you have your head on the floor. It’s actually easier than crow because you are balancing on a more stable base (imagine a triangle with your head at the top and hands at the other two corners).
Start there and then stick your knees on your triceps and it’s actually pretty easy to balance. Next step is bent knees not resting on the arms, and then you shoot for a full headstand (I’m just about getting to grips with that - can’t do it everytime but I’ve managed it a few times).
I’m still at school - last day of term today. IT man comes tonight so hopefully the PC will be up and running later this evening (fingers crossed).

I <3 you. This is exactly what all girls need. Encouragement for hard work. In the words of Kimba, you really are doing great as the ‘accidental teacher’!
Great work on the MPs! You’ll be hitting 40kilos in no time.
I already hit 40kg! One rep max, mind you… The difficulty is getting more reps. Anyway…
PC is fixed but it did require a new Windows install so that means reinstalling all my games again, and downloading things I need, and so on and so forth. Pain in the arse but I’ve got two games up so far, and just working on the rest. I guess I won’t bother with the older ones I no longer play.
Last day of term today and my goodness, there has been a lot of crap food. Staff Christmas lunch this afternoon, several girls giving me chocolates (being a teacher at a private school has some perks, it seems!), bake sale yesterday. Think I’ll need a detox soon!
I’m a bit concerned about my back. Since doing squats it has been very grumbly. I take this as a sign that it’s still not happy with that movement. Deadlifts don’t have the same effect, so I’ll continue with them, but I’ll drop weighted squats back out again.
It’s difficult because squatting is such an important movement but my body just doesn’t like it. Having said that, I’ve signed up for an introduction to oly lifting course at Crossfit (this is relatively cheap at £45 and also adds to my gym instructor qualification) and a component of that is looking at squatting technique. I think with expert help I can figure out what is wrong and start working on it.
Anyway, that’s all for today. Been an expensive week, what with the new boiler and the computer repair!
signing up for some training and learning is good stuff ![]()
Gym today…it’s nice not working on a Friday. God bless private schools and their long holidays.
Millies:
10 x Bar
10 x 25kg
10 x 30kg (Done this two workouts in a row after being stuck at 9 for ages).
6 x 32.5kg (+1), 5 x 32.5kg, 4 x 32.5kg
Was happy with the six reps at 32.5kg (approx 72lbs) so decided to do another couple of sets and didn’t have it in me to repeat the feat. But that’s fine. I tend to fatigue quite quickly at these.
Chins: 4 (+1), 3, 2
Died on the last set so stopped there.
Deadlifts:
10 x Bar
10 x 60kg
6 x 75kg (I wanted to see how many I could do at this weight, thanks to Nadia and her many reps, but my grip went. Need to remember chalk).
3 x 80kg
1 x 90kg (I haven’t pulled 90 off the floor in a long time. Form wasn’t stellar but it wasn’t awful either, and the weight came up without much fuss. So I decided to go heavier…)
1 x 100kg (Form was fucking awful! Back was totally rounded. But, hey, I got the bastard up, which isn’t bad considering I layed off deadlifting for more than a year. Just wanted to know if I still had it in me, and apparently I do. I 'll stick to lower weights and stricted form but I think it’s good to test yourself once in a while).
I’d had enough at this point so went and worked on head and handstands. I’m still very hit and miss with the headstands. I think my big arse likes to pull me over, heh. I got one decent one, though.
88lbs!!! Thats GREAT!!
And those DL’s!!
Cal so much good stuff going on here. I’m sorry the squats aren’t working out for you, but DLs, MPS and chins are super strong! You’ll kill the DL reps with chalk for sure–it makes a big difference. And then just to pull 100kgs after a year off–awesomeness!
Hold up, you haven’t DL’d in over a year and you’re pulling 100 kg? Screw bad form, that’s awesome!
I deadlifted a few days ago and could barely do it haha
I hope the Oly course helps with the squat. But yes, avoid squats if your back isn’t happy about it. Because your millies more than make up for it.
Did nothing yesterday - my computer is working again and it was snowing and I couldn’t be arsed to go out. Today was my last gymnastics class of the year at Crossfit, so I did that. It went OK but I found my muscles were getting fatiguied quite quickly. I wasn’t feeling on top form - my diet hasn’t been great and I went to bed late last night so I have only myself to blame. The other thing is that Flo has been sticking around for more than a week the last couple of months - as I’m 43 I suspect I may be getting peri-menopausal. I really should get my hormones tested but I’m not going to bother before Christmas. I got very irregular when I turned 40 and then it all levelled out again for a few years, so it may be a blip, or it could be the beginning of the end. Hrmm.

This. That’s pretty freaking impressive Cal. Talk about muscle memory! Amazing!
Aww! No more gymnastics? Are you planning on moving up into the intermediate class or something?
awesome deads for someone dealing with your issues ![]()
I completely agree that going balls-to-the-wall on max weight every now and again is a useful exercise, even if form breaks down. 100kg! That is HUGE!
Expert help with the squat is a really good plan. There has got to be a way you can do that movement without injuring yourself.
That snow in Europe now is just craziness! I absolutely wouldn’t run outside either if there was any danger of slipping and falling. Not worth the risk.
Cracks me up to hear you talk about menopause.
I say that because of all the pervy, giggly, video gaming images I have of you… someone my age or younger.
Gives me hope that I’ll be able to stay true to my immature self in my chronologically older years.
