You failed to highlight the very next sentence where I say my reason is different than his. But that’s okay. Selective hearing, selective reading, selective interpretation - it’s all the same if you can only view things in a way to support your own thoughts.
You’ll love this one - I also think front squats are quite possibly worthless for me. The reason - my hip bone structure as revealed by x-rays, MRIs, and surgery. I see no reason to do a movement that will literally chew up my hip socket.
Call me crazy, but I don’t think this training thing is a one size fits all game.
That was mostly for @flappinit and @dagill2 to show them they were wrong and dumb. I read the whole post, do you guys think that the highlighted portion is the only part I read? c’mon now. I only highlighted the part that contradicted what dagill and flappy said…And since you cried and whined about not being tagged in a post about you, I figured I’d tag you this time so we didn’t have to hear you whine like a little bitch again.
But pfury made the original comment and you singled out jmaier despite his reasoning being that they’re not right FOR HIM. You’re acting like a little child.
I mean, uh, not sure how I’m involved here, but y’all don’t want none.
And yeah, this pistol tangent is weird. I thought the original statement was pretty clear. It’s disingenuous to quote half of a sentence and say “See what this guy just said?!”
Hitler wasn’t the worst guy in the world, Edmund I mean. His older brother Adolf was clearly the worst.
This really caught my attention. I did front squats yesterday (something I normally don’t do), including some from pins, just experimenting. (due to Alsruhe’s video about the greatness of front squats). And…I noticed it helped with a minor hip issue that had been bothering me due to either back squatting or deadlifting (when fatigued).
I personally really think that hip issues (in general) result not from any exercise in particular, but from not being in tune to how (when?) one is rotating the joint in the socket, and from what position -anterior or posterior tilt or “neutral”. I think because the hips are so strong, we always just do “the movement” w/o thinking about “the muscle” because “the hips” comprise so many muscles. Look at ten people doing the hip thrust, and I’m betting they all look a little different at lockout. Look at ten people squatting -at the bottom, some have hip shift right or left, some have one hip sitting lower than the other, etc.
Every time I stand up or sit down (especially from the toilet LOL), I am obsessively focusing on how my hips/hip joints are feeling/moving. And my knees too of course, but that’s another long post…
This guy, @Frank_C, complained about how pistol squats don’t build muscle…AFTER 1-2 REPS.
Think about that.
Seriously, think about that for a second or three.
Analogy: I got in a Porsche 911 and only went to 4500rpm in 1st gear…that car ain’t fast!
Who wants to defend that garbage?? Anyone???
I’ve been on this site for over 9yrs, I remember the day that a comment like that would absolutely DERAIL a thread. Dude would be torn apart from multiple angles. People from the rehab thread to PWI would be dropping in to see what all the commotion was about.
And the length of the Femurs…another awesome excuse. Like what is the length of the femur that makes it hard to do a pistol squat? 32.234095782345607" ? Or is it 23.2395876" ? Or is it a ratio? Is there a doctors note excusing him from doing pistol squats? Is it a genetic thing that is attributed to heritage like the deep hip socket of people of western european decent (credit to Dr. Mcgill) sooo many questions.
Sure, I’m an asshole, a Dbag, all of the above. But to let these shitty comments slide is very un-Tnation like.
Defending people cause they’re “good guys”, not defending what they said, beautiful.
@carbiduis
Alright, dickbag, I’ll bite. Here’s the first post regarding your soft spot:
And my response/support:
Where does it ever say anything about reps? Where is there a blanket statement that pistol squats are bad for everyone? I’ve highlighted the part that you seem to ignore, which qualifies the statement for me, my training preferences, injury history, and experience.
I was even tolerant enough to engage in what I thought was a dialogue with you about why I feel the way I do. I guess your methods of training are to force everyone into the same box. Do things that hurt and cause injury regardless. If you don’t then you must be weak.
After responding to you, you said nothing back and I left the thread. I come get tagged again and come back to see that you selected half a sentence from my original post (which we already discussed and clarified further) to somehow justify why you thought this thread or some of the comments were stupid. For some reason you’re horribly caught up on my agreement with @pfury about pistol squats. It seems to have struck a nerve or something because you took it upon yourself to call me out for a fool when no one was asking - twice.
Unfortunately, no one seems to have accepted your nonsense. It’s been discussed several times now but you keep bringing it back up as if yelling the same thing over and over will somehow make it true.
Continue posting in the Off Topic, PWI, and Beginner sections. The rest of us will actually be training, sharing our experiences, and encouraging one another. You can find us in the Bigger, Stronger, Leaner section.
I think you’re badly misreading what was said. Having said that, I’ve had discussions with yourself before that followed a similar pattern and it didn’t end productively for anyone. I don’t particularly feel like an endless “read what was said” loop, so we’ll have to agree to disagree and go our ways
Are you pretending that limb length and natural body leverages don’t influence how a given exercise will affect an individual, or is that what you truly believe?
Notice that you’re (again) completely ignoring the second half of the sentence where he mentioned long femurs. That’s that part where he mentioned having hip and knee surgery, followed by another sentence about immobility due to ankle injury. An individual’s injury history is a 100% valid reason to avoid any problematic exercise.
Dude, you’re not on the right side of this argument. It seems like you started from the position of “pistols can and should be done by everyone”. It’s okay to hold that opinion, but it’s certainly not fact.
I agree, but not in relation to the comments you’re likely referring to.
It’s not because he’s a good guy, it’s because he’s easily developed and experienced enough to say “There is no room for that in my training.”.
But he’s also a good guy.
It’s not like he’s some teenage douche that is going to talk smack about some obscure and innane physiological detail and insult helpful and experienced people while he’s at it.
