Bullfighting & Fox Hunting Bans

I’d have to disagree about an age minimum. Firstly you could only televise at a later time and give it a rating neither of which would prevent kids seeing it. But also because I don’t see it as something that children shouldn’t see. There’s so much sick stuff on television that should be of far more concern in my opinion. Bullfighting is not about torturing the bull or glorifying killing or anything of course so I don’t see why kids shouldn’t be able to watch it.

Well, that age minimum goes back to what I mentioned in my first post about exposing children to the permanence of death early on. You could argue that is a good thing, and in general I believe it is, however I go back and forth on bull-fighting.

I will READILY agree that there are literally thousands of far more violent, sick, and depraved things on TV. And I am a fan of realism before hollywood exposure. There’s a reason people who “live” real life situations understand the difference between reality and TV at a younger age than those who do not get exposed to “nature’s way” early on and the consequences for certain actions. IE–farm kids, hunters, etc.

But on the other hand…I am not convinced that bullfighting is not about torturing the bull. I’ve seen bullfights. It didn’t make me sick to my stomach whatsoever. No effect. But I am also not convinced of your position. On the other hand, if statue urinating on a cross can be considered “high art”…

Oh come now BG…YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO!!
I do. But it’s a fool’s errand. And we have a notorious troll here doing nothing but pushing buttons with fifth grade girl logic.

The AR agenda is a slippery slope and hypocritical unless you abstain from ALL animal products.

And those that support and oppose AR will not reconcile. Ever.

Either animals have rights or they do not. I say they do not because I refuse to step one foot on that slippery slope whilst I prepare my steak for dinner and thread the coach leather belt (that matches the suede shoes) through my pants.

As for bullfighting, meh. I’m not sure it’s a sporting endeavor. If it’s sporting, and not unnecessarily cruel, I say permit it. Fox hunting, like most hunting, can be performed in a sporting manner.

As always, I think the degree of regulation is more important than “yes” regulation or “no” regulation.

For example, if someone is hunting an over-populated animal, like a wild pig in America or deer in certain regions, excellent. Why stop them?

If they use the meat they kill from an animal that had a free life with a fairly good diet before it was killed, that’s better than the mass cultivation of animals in feed lots. The family saves money on meat and eats better at the same time.

On the other hand, if the animal killed is nearly or is endangered, the entire ecosystem is that much closer to ruined for everyone. If the person killing also doesn’t eat the meat, what a fucking waste of life. At least take it home and give it to someone with less than you.

As for bullfighting, I really can’t make a good argument for torture. My logic skills don’t cover “well it’s tradition!” On that note, if you hunt, don’t use a fucking bow and arrow. Learn to shoot a gun and do it well.

think this suit this thread well.

The more I read from this fool, I think it is some 18 year old twilight obsessed female.

seriously, just because you live in a city and are sheltered from reality, doesn’t mean other people don’t actually hunt to eat or feed others.

Animals are food get over it.
No, hunters use that their pitiful excuse to kill animals. “to feed their families” thats total crap. why not go to the grocery store and get them some food thats actually good for them. Oh, and i hate Twilight. My point is, why are animals food and humans aren’t. why do we get to decide that animals are food. who are we to decide that. I decided that all hunters are cowards and should all die a painful death.
No fucking wonder you’re fat in your picture. You actually think processed, chemical filled food is healthier than Nature’s multivitamin, meat. I suppose Lunchables and Gushers are health foods for you too. After all, gushers are fruit-flavored. That’s vegetarian AND fruit is good for you!

How the fuck do you think that hamburger gets into the package? The hamburger fairy drop it off? There’s probably a hotdog fairy and a bratwurst fairy helping stock up too huh?

I know people, personally, that hunt exclusively to feed their families. They also grow their own vegetables. Incidentally we spent…oh about a million years hunting for feeding our families. Meat eating is in our DNA. Literally. The genes are there, otherwise our digestive tract would look more like a cow’s, or a horse’s.

first, I’m fat? really? really? reaaalllly? comeon now. we both know thats a stretch. am i fat compared to an in shape bodybuilder about to go on stage and compete, yes. But i am no fatter than just about any offseason pro. jay cutler, branch warren, etc…

And animal meat is just about the most unhealthy food there is. How much heart disease does meat cause?

I also believe that if you can’t kill it, you don’t deserve to eat it.

Indeed! NO MEAT FOR CHILDREN!

I lolled. That’s pretty funny.

On another note, have you ever watched kids play with small animals and bugs? One of my coworkers received a call from his sister in law because his nephews (8 and 9) were torturing rabbits. It’s like kids either pretend the animals are pets or invent new ways of tearing them apart.

I was more referring to the will to kill rather than the actual ability.

Why? What have you got against bullfighting? And why do you think the government should stop other people from bullfighting?
Aragorn wrote:

Perhaps I expressed myself badly. I meant it is not the intention of the bullfighter to cause the bull pain and suffering. I’m not suggesting that the bulls don’t suffer though.

I agree with.this sentiment.
pushharder wrote:
I’m certain the bulls do “suffer” but we need not be anthropomorphically ambitious here; they do not feel pain the way humans do, in my opinion based on my years on cattle ranches. They are tough as nails.
I agree. I was arguing from a purely academic perspective because frankly I don’t care that bulls “suffer” in bullfights. I don’t mean to sound callous but these bulls are bred for fighting. The breeds wouldn’t even exist if bullfighting was eradicated. Most of them live a life of luxury as seed bulls and are then sent into the ring. They probably don’t even know they’re injured until towards the end of the tercio de muerte. I say “know” but we’re talking about herd animals here. Besides, when the bull is sufficiently weakened and has been grounded it is dispatched as cleanly and quickly as possible.

But from an academic perspective my point is that any “suffering” the bulls might endure is mitigated by the greater good - preserving the heritage, culture and traditions. Keeping families who have been in bullfighting for centuries employed. Bringing in tourists; providing entertainment for thousands of people etc

.

I completely support bull fighting. Just think about it:
-If they stop killing bulls, the bulls will grow in numbers
-One will attack a person and acquire the taste for human blood
-They will break free from the corrals and run wild

  • Havoc will be reeked all across Europe from the stampedes of bulls
-Inevitably someone will attempt to save Europe by sending the bulls to America (since most Europeans hate Americans)
-THey will reach America and stampede across it wrecking everything in their path
-Since I live in RI I will be one of the first effected (and I feel like that would just suck)
-Eventually North America will look like it did in I Am Legend, just a barren wasteland filled with broken buildings and abandoned cars with bulls running wild all over the place

So I say keep killing the damn bulls…plus I heard bull testicles are pretty tasty

If you don’t think about it…or if your dad and other ranchers just don’t tell you what they gave you…they’re damn tasty
