Bulldog and Bullpup Log Part 2

Yeah for 72 yr olds!! That gives me a goal.

Take that, Mr “but you’re over 50” snobbish trainer.
Yep. That the nice thing about PL there isn’t a age cut off.

Enjoyed your write-up about the Indiana NASA meet. I have watched a number of NASA meets and do find the judging to be wildly inconsistent. But sometimes NASA has a monolift. And I find that very seductive. Was there one there?

Regarding your new “friend,” my coach is 72 as well and I find his lifting efforts extremely impressive when I think about the fact that most of his counterparts can’t even get in a squat position.

So you’re competing in June?

Bulldog,

How do you set up your weekly workouts?
Well right now its in a state of flux right now since in another two weeks Ill be entering meet prep mode.

But on a whole I only lift 3 times a week for recovery reasons. while rotating my lifts as such…

Monday: Squats
Wednesday :Bench
Friday:Deads
Monday: was doing Mpress but It morphed into a assistance type day
Wedesday: Squats

You pretty much get the idea.

Going into my peaking routine Ill be still doing three times a week.

Monday : deads with upper back work
Wednesday: Bench with some shoulders and arms
Friday: squats with some hamstring and core work.

That’s pretty much it.

My biggest issue is just insuring some decent recovery.

 • Ive competed in a NASA meet where they brought a Mono. But this time around they just used up rights. The judging maybe wasn’t as bad as I made it sound but there was a few calls I questioned.

 • I pointed it out to my new 72 old friend. The reason he did power sports was he couldnt squat anymore for what ever reason. But still he did pull well over double body weight at his age. Heck most average people in are age rang would have issues.

 • Yep June, second weekend . Starting my peaking for it in two weeks.

I don’t know why… But Ive noticed that Ive have started thinking more and more about the notion of getting “Jacked”

So, in regular training, your squatting, benching, and deadlifting every 9-10 days with 4 day workout done 3 days a week with the 4th day starting the 2nd week on Monday? And for peaking, each one is worked every 7 days?
