Hey Coach!
Wondering what your thoughts on what’s best to boost the bench press, your Bulgarian Training Simplified program or The best damn strenght plan for natrual lifters? Also, can the Military Press in The Best Damn Strenght Plan be replaced with Incline bench?
It depends on the person’s neurological profile. Types 1A will get better results from the Bulgarian program. 2Bs from The Best Damn Strength plan. 2A might actually do best alternating both every 3 weeks. 1B would likely do better with the Bulgarian plan to. Type 3 will not get optimal results from either.
Have been re-looking over the Best Damn Strength Plan and actually it seems like an awesome way to train year round.
I favor it over best damn plan for muscle given the strength element. The template is similar to Wendler’s 5/3/1 as well…i’m doing the BBB but higher freq (lower volume) so it ends up looking really similar: deadlift (FS) / bench (shoulder press) / FS (deadlift) / push press (bench)
1-2 days rest as neeed rotating…effectively it’s high frequency (3x/week) and the volume is pretty comparable to best damn strength. Not doing the 5x10 often (unless machine/accessory, more like 5x5 or 8x3 for assistance volume) and then 1-2 isolation done rest pause
I just find ONE top set (max reps) on big compounds not ideal for me so gravitated toward more “strength-skill” work.
Basically if best damn strength would advise a 3x5 or 5x5 or 8x3 on the big lift (all of them) rather than the one max set it would be very fun to follow year round…
