Building a Big Neck

Neck flexion done with static contraction and resistance bands followed by Nautilus decline press works the Sternocleidomastoid muscles.

1-arm shrugs with resistance bands done with pulse reps followed by rows or pulldowns can target mid-traps

Added a shrug to my deadlifts for the sake of efficiency. Looking forward to increased trap gains.

I feel like that’s making shrugs and deadlifts worse honestly. BUT a solid strategy might be to finish your deadlift workout and then go for a max set of shrugs after that.

I like single set stuff with shrugs. I use bands with an axle and go for REP prs.

I am getting a Rogers 5 way neck machine for 500.

Wonder if that’ll help build a neck like this guy’s

Hackenschmidt don’t need no machine for a massive neck!

Wonder if he needed a machine for it…

My bad lol I’m with you though. He’s one of my idols. One of the first dudes to build a massive well rounded physique. He had it figured out 100 years ago with very limited equipment compared to what’s available now.

What’s the 5th way on the 5 way neck machine?

What was Hackenschmidt’s finishing move?

5th way on the Rogers Pendulum neck machine is a seated shrug. Independent movement arms. So, you can do a regular 2-arm shrug or a 1-arm shrug. It also has an adjustable starting position on the cam for the 4-way neck movements. The shrug arms are leveraged so you don’t need a lot of weight (plates) to do the shrug movement. It is The Best neck machine made today.

Got the idea from watching a Lasha Talakhadze video where he did a pull/shrug after his deadlift.

To be honest, I think you’re right. Have just felt like mixing things up a bit lately.

Absolutely!
