Bug: Killin It

Squats look pretty good. Depth is right there. Definitely not too deep. But many of the heavier ones looked “right there” as USAPL depth goes, or at least borderline close. Not sure if you were thinking of powerlifting. I would strongly recommend getting a real belt. A simple 10mm one would be fine. It will be night and day.

No -I just remember interning at a talent agency in LA in high school. It was across from a big investment banking firm. I used to smoke cigarettes, and outside I met a dude who was 23 - fresh out of college - making like 150k + a year right out of the gate. But that was before the fucked economy and all that.

BTW, I talked to my dad (who is a lawyer), and he said that lawyers out of the top 10 law schools that go to work for top Manhattan type law firms can make up to 200,000+ a year STARTING. Jesus! But they also work 75+ hour weeks…No time for lifting or living lol. [/quote]

Yeah you work at least 70+ hours, sometimes 80-90 hrs for WEEKS on end and sometimes for several years in the beginning. If you normalize that for a 40 hr work week, making say, $120k out of school (which is what I’ve heard for top law schools on the west coast; but I’m sure area of law matters and I’m sure Manhattan pays more on average for corp. law etc.) It’s really not THAT impressive.

Plus, top schools are at least $45k/yr, so you come out with $180k in debt AND you work 80 hrs a week (so take your salary and cut it in half)…

Again, it’s about perspective. But yes, starting out at over $150k must be nice. I won’t hit that for a while.

Bugs,

One good friend is a hedge fund analyst about to become partner (pharma portfolio) and another friend is in private equity. Both of them are doing well but the hedge fund friend is doing very well from what I’ve gathered; he’s never told me directly but among our friends, we have an idea of what people are making.

I think they gave him a 100k holiday bonus and told him he can have 1/3 upfront and the other 2/3 of it after 2 years; that’s how they hook you.

hey Bug

You looking like those health and fitness magazine cover model some fake tan here and there, professional lighting and airbrushing and you’re set!

hlss, Ponce - yeah I’m well aware with the compensation in i.banking, hedge funds, and PE. hence why I wanna get in there

aj - thanks man. I was definitely thinking about getting another belt; this one blows and I got it when I started.

Bear - thanks man! Honestly, I’m not that lean, but with a pump in the gym, I don’t look too bad.

Hit some shoulders solo today. Saw the Cruz-meister as I was finishing up. He is getting ha-yoooooj.

Standing military press - ololololol
bar x 20
95 x 10
135 x 8
155 x 6
185 x 5+1 - LOL i remember the first time i military pressed.
135 x 10

DB laterals - form was pretty tight.
30s x 12
40s x 12
50s x 12
—partials:
90s x 20 drop 25s x 10 w/ a hold.

DB front raises - hoping these will help DAT BENCH.
35s x 8
45s x 8
55s x 7

Cable rear delts
#3 x 12, 12 - i like DBs way better I think. Maybe our cables are just poopy.

One set seated DB press as a finisher: 35s x 20 with a slow negative.

DB shrugs w/ a hold at the top
90s x 12
110s x 12
140s x 12, 12

and that was it. was feeling kinda nauseous the whole session. all I had before was a protein shake and 35g worth of carbs from cereal.

Just popping back in, Bug you look a whole different person. Damn.

Can I be a peanut too?

XB, thanks for stopping by man. Stay on that diet! Keep us posted.

Chest workouts slowly improving. I forgot to look over the comments on my bench vid before going in today, but I remembered some of the big ones. Bench is starting to feeling much more solid. First 5 warmup sets felt awesome, like I was playing with air.

Bench press
95 x 8, 8
135 x 8, 8
205 x 8
245 x 5
295 x 5 - no sleeves, all reps were solid and confident. Happy with this. The weight will go up when my body is ready, I’m confident of that.

Incline bench - happy with this today since 225 felt like a fucking TON last time I freeweight inclined a couple weeks ago.
135 x 12
205 x 8
245 x 5+1 - just needed help locking out that last rep. The groove felt much better than it has recently. woot!

One-armed smith bench - LOVE THIS MOVEMENT.
25/side x 15 LR
45/side x 12 LR
55/side x 8 LR - woof that shit gets HARD.

7 sets of cable crossovers with low rest (partner goes, i go) with more weight than I’d been doing. Pump incrediblez. Needed a few min to let my arms dangle after that…

Rope pressdowns (on the lat pulldown)
37.5 x 15
50 x 10
62.5 x 10
— switch to w bar thingy –
87.5 x 10
120ish x 8

Overhead DB extensions
75 x 15
85 x 12
---- switch to one arm at a time
25 x 12, 12 LR

Cable kickbacks/pressdowns, 3 sets for dat pumpz.

Then some ab and calf work. Was gonna do cardio but everything was taken and I didn’t feel like waiting.

Shitty eating and copious amounts of alcohol was SOP this weekend. Surprisingly I don’t look too fluffy today and hopefully by the end of the week, I’ll be looking nice and tight again.

lolz… using the word “fluffy” to describe someones body always makes me laugh.

solid looking session… Those bench weights are creeping back up. Thats what I like to see. Working with a good training partner is awesome huh?

thanks Greg. A good training partner is invaluable, especially when things have been in a funk.

Keep up the awesome work, gradually working my way through this thread, impressive stuff bug, will be following and reading further

I’m starting to get the theme from watching bodybuilders train that being able to rep the stack + weight = big back. Good lifting as per.

pbclax - thanks man. yeah, it will be cool to deadlift again. Not really in a super duper hurry to start doing them, plus my training partner has some fucked up discs (idk the details) and doesn’t deadlift anymore, so they probably won’t be included anytime too soon. eventually though! Gotta get past 6 hundo!

jake - thank man. definitely the stack plus some change seems to be a staple in the BB’er back day. This weight stack is pretty light though, and I’ve been to some gyms that go up to 300 lbs (and higher sometimes). if you’re adding weight to THAT, then you’re a true monster.

Leg day. Started off a little “hazy”, mentally, one headphone blew out as I was walking into the gym (fml), but turned into a hell of a session. No way in hell I’m walking anywhere tomorrow.

Smith squats
135 x 15
225 x 10
315 x 10
405 x 8

Leg press w/ slow negative
4pps x 15
6pps x 15
8pps x 19 (! wtf) drop 6pps x 8ish drop 4pps x a lot + partials. I got to like 10-11, then hit a fit of rage inspired by whatever song I was listening to and banged out like 8-9 more. fucked my quads UP.

Leg extensions - lolz
110 x 20
170 x 12
230 x 9
110 x 15ish goddd. legs buckling all over the place.

One-legged plate-loaded leg curls
1pps x 12, 12 LR
1pps x 11 + 7 + 4 (ish, rest paused wut)

Reverse hyper extension thingies (really just back extensions with a hard contraction at the top of glutes and hams. does the trick.)
bw x 12, 12, 12

calf machine I’d never done before until I couldn’t walk (3 sets and some crazy drop set).

i’m done. brutal leg day was brutal.
