*BRUTAL SIMPLICITY*

Thanks MJ, Skid and Mom in MD… I am getting a little nervous now.

TNT- LOL!-you hit the nail on the head, I am a little OCD, coupled with a type “A” personality… you get the picture. I am starting to learn though… my body is talking to me lately… like yesterday, it just wasn’t there.

With Ouroboro and my wife there, I am sure I will be o.k., I just hope I don’t make a fool of myself.

MAY 23-- SQUAT/ ASSISTANCE

SQUAT
bar x warmup
225x5 (everything hurt during this set)
315x3 (still hurts…)
(belt and wraps on)
405x1 (kness, back, elbows, wrists… ouch… WTF?)
(elbow sleeves and wrist wraps on- first time used squatting)

475x1
515x1 (red light- weight got over my knees, bending me forward- did not hit depth)
405x1 (was gonna rep this out- no energy… %$#@!)
225x3-- just to stretch out back hams and glutes-- nice and deep— still felt heavy though-???

SUPERSET-- D.B. CURLS>> STANDING CALF RAISES>> REAR DELTS PEC DECK
4 sets, 30 seconds between sets with drop sets, all to failure

**No energy today, felt sluggish and weak. Tried to get the blood flowing… no go. The mind was willing, but the body said, “Go f%$#@ yourself.”

Not enough food lately, screwed up schedule the culprit? Who knows…

So, live to fight another day…**

You’re the man. Awesome work and great numbers. You have your support team, small case of the jitters and a muscle mass that will take you to the top. Remember it doesn’t count without pictures.

Look at the killer DL session you had on May 21. Did you really expect to come in on May 23 and have a killer squat session? You would have to increase your daily consumption of kryptonite in order to do that. Progress comes to those that are patient.

TNT

Bunny, you remind me of a larger, male, much better looking version of me. My challenge is always to dial things back a bit. Training for me today wasn’t just like ass, it was like the stinky hole in the middle. Ddot76 was there and I asked him to take a look at my deadlifts. They weren’t horrible but he made the comment that maybe I’m doing too much volume at too high a percentage of my 1rm for too long on all lifts. Then he looked at me like I’m a retard. Do you think you could be the recipient of one of those looks too?

I do it because that’s one of the few times my head has any peace. I need to work on rethinking this. What about you?

Yeah. TNT made a valid point too. So… I am looking at myself in the mirror currently, like I am a dummy.

But… on a brighter note, bench tomorow!

It’s hard to dial it back - especially when you’re having a good training string, but it does eventually catch up. and if you gut it out and push even harder, you end up hurt. Better to dial back when you don’t feel badly so your recovery bucket can fill up again. Better in the long run, I’m learning.

Folks like Meat, Wendler and Cressey have a good understanding of this and it’s generally a good idea to follow their programs verbatim, no extras, until you’ve got a good idea how your body responds under different workload scenarios.

That said, you still one Kabaddi-ass dude.

Charlie Francis said, that he spent 90% of his time holding his athletes back and only 10% of his time pushing them. It’s the nature of the beast. More is not better. Better is better.

That right there is some good sense. Stop it.

That is the simple truth. Learn to hear your body, use your support, live and lift one more day at a time.

Skid/ TNT/ Ouro/ Elai- took your advice, and listened to my body. Strangely, that little voice in the back of my head sounds a hell of alot like Meat. Weird. Anyhow…

A little less volume today, still don’t feel 100% but doin’ alright. I have still not heard anything from the organizers of the meet I entered June 6th in Belle River-- timings etc., and I have not yet received my “mantard”.

So, for the past couple of months, my bodyweight has been between 260-270 lbs… 2 weeks ago I was sitting at 272 lbs. I weighed myself yesterday, 282 lbs! Yikes! I am supposed to be lifting in the 275 class… I am gonna have to watch myself and try to lose this 7-10 pounds in the next 10 days.

I thought Kokanee was the nectar of the Gods and it imparted you with the strength of 20… Good lifting there big guy

I was with my chiro this morning and mentioned I’d be helping you at the meet. He was asking about your lifts and how big you are. I said you were a big ass bastard. I think I said you were around 250. My mistake. You’re huuuuge.

He’s always interested because he treats most of the provinces lifters and is at most of the meets.

Don’t stress about not having heard. I think they’re waiting until they either fill up both events or until the deadline (June 3) passes or is at least closer. Then they’ll figure out how many people they have, how long it will take, and go from there. I’d still count on either a 7 or 730 weigh in for Push/Pull though. Feel free to call the organizer and ask him though. I figure since I train with the OPA prez I don’t have to worry about not hearing what time I lift at. HE better know what time he’s lifting at since he’s competing too!

Bunny, what are the weights you’re opening with and shooting for?? Compete super heavy weight for this first meet. Get to 275 for August. Lose to much to quick and you’ll be weak like I am now.

I have never been to a chiropractor… ever. Do they really help? I have been to a RMT, and think I may start seeing one regular to help with some aches and pains. How do you know if you need a chiro? I have also heard that once you start going, you have to continue forever… is this true?

Yeah, I am getting pretty big. I tried on one of my dress shirts the other day, most of them are 18 1/2 inch necks… no go, could not do up the top button to put a tie on. I put on a 19 inch neck shirt, and got the top button done up but it was pretty snug. I only have 3 19 inch neck shirts, so looks like I am going to be doing some shopping.

This morning weighed 282… looks like I may be lifting in the super heavies… damn.

Cool! I get to meet the Prez too! Will you do the intro? What is he competing in, the 3 lift I imagine?

Yeah… perhaps you are right. I don’t wanna get too stressed for this event, it is meant to be a learning experience.

I would like to see my deadlift around 600 (opening at 565 lbs) and bench around 350 (opening at ??)… haven’t decided yet.

Of course I will. As long as Ouro introduces you to me (or you find the crazy girl with the pink t-shirt, belt and shoes on your own) first. He’s competing in the 3 lift but will likely be there somewhat early to help out and make sure things are good.

BR is a pretty big meet usually (apparently) and they have a good party/bbq afterwards. Nothing like a cold beer after you lift. I’ve already mentioned to the guys that I will have a cooler of cold beer in my trunk for when I’m all done

Ruggerlife (keeps a log in the Training Log section, visits us women in PW regularly) is now officially competing in the 3 lift too so it’ll be a TN party.

MAY 27 DEADLIFT

Next week will be kinda a deload for me, with the competition being on June 6th, so today (this morning) I decided to go in and play around… try and find out what my opening deadlift will be. My little cousin (6-8 and 290 lbs @ 25 years old) decided to come with me as he has decided that he wants to start working out.

So, I devised a beginner program for him (body part specific) as he is not interested in powerlifting… yet.
In between my tutoring him and discussing weights/ techniques and his drooling over the spandex clad women… I did the following;

DEADLIFT
bar x warmup
135x10
225x8
315x5
405x2
(belt on)
495x1
565x1-- I am thinking this will be my opener. My second attempt might be 585 or 590… and my third will be going for a PR (600+) if successful with the second attempt.

BENTOVER BARBELL ROWS
225 x 3 sets of 10

At this point I had to leave after finishing with my cuz, forgot I had scheduled a meeting with a refinisher/ wood working guy for the repairing of an old table I have. So I will be going back in later this afternoon/ tonight to do some accessory stuff.

P.S.- Can’t wait to see my cuz tomorrow, he is gonna be some sore. I put him through the paces today… he kept sayin’ “this is pretty easy”… but he was struggling near the end. He definitely has an ego, especially when he thinks the “little old man” (me) is showing him up.

I am sure Ouro will introduce us and Rugger as well. I will look up his thread in the training log forum.

Here I thought the “Belle River” meet would be something small, out of the way and quiet where I could get my feet wet, gain some experience with no pressures of the big meets, so I would not look like a total dork and get in peoples way. Looks like I may have messed up there huh?!

I hope I know what I’m doing… or at least appear to. I may be into the beer in the cooler before my second attempt… lol!
