*BRUTAL SIMPLICITY*

Not that you don’t know this but at our height we move the bench a lot further than our height challenged brothers. Your overhead pressing is good so maybe a little more attention on tris may take you the next step.

CGs on incline, flat, and decline might help. I’m addicted to pullovers(video on my home), both machine and ez curl bar. I’ve had to accept I’m a puller and not a presser. The bench will come. As for the grip, I love my wrist roller, 2-1/2" PVC pipe(thicker the better to a point), hole in the middle, nylon rope about3’ long. 5X5, start light, when you get to 20#db+ your straps won’t get much use.Sometimes I stand on a bench, the weight shouldn’t hit the floor.

BB ad DB wrist curls. DBhold for time, when you can hold it for 75 seconds up the weight. For what it’s worth, the Missouri Mule.

You’ve got a good deep and wide chest and not taking advantage of it. You’re arm benching. Take the grip out some so your forearms are more vertical and your chest will take some of the load for you and I bet your bench will improve.

For big guys like you staying inside the uprights can be a problem, I can see it from your video, plus you have long arms in relation to your height. You’ll have to watch for pinching yourself in the uprights.

CLose grip bench variation or JM presses will get the tricep strength up.

Shoot me and I’m dead. Good luck to your training. I won’t post again. How can anyone know how a person trains who is shorter and 80lbs lighter??? I’m out of here!!!

Barry,I’m sorry if I offended you, as that was never my intent. I was commenting on Bunny’s video that he posted on youtube and my comments were directed only towards him, hopefully in a spirit of helpfulness.

I would not presume to tell you how to train as your experience is greater than mine and your training style is different.

Sorry if there’s been any misunderstanding.

Hey Bunny! Is there something you’d like to tell us about being a “cougar”?

ps - A “cougar” in american slang is an older woman who goes around picking up younger men for fun and “entertainment”.[/quote]

Ummm… no. It was a joke… Ok, I am a “Manther” then.

??? Thanks Barry and Skid, both of your advice is very helpful, and I will be implementing both for grip and tricep training.

All I know is that my bench sucks, and does not seem to be progressing as fast as what I would like.

Everybody says that as your DL’s and squat increase, so will your bench… this does not seem to be the case with me. Granted, it has not been very long… but there should be some what of an increase… right?

Are you using a thumbless grip on your BP?

LOL! Ahem … sorry! Well, some people also see an increase in BW at the same time their DL and squat inch up. Is that true your case? So benching is not your forte? Welcome to the “My BP Sucks” club! How’s your CGBP? How are your lats?

FWIW, those wide grip pull-ups? Aim for the clavicle! Chins, the sternum! Yeah, sucks canal water … I know! Same with MP: set those pins at clavicle level. It’s gonna suck my friend, but right now you are working a partial ROM!

Cappy

Question? At what point in the bench attempts did it fail? Off the chest, lock out?

Yeah, I am using a thumbless grip for bench… is that good or bad?

My BW has actually dropped… I was at 279 lbs, currently at around 263 lbs. I am trying to lower mt bodyfat %… but I am still eating well, most of the time.

I have not close gripped bench pressed in awhile, but I am normally around 275 for a couple of reps…

I will change the range of motion on the chins… may have to go to cable pulldowns for a bit to get full range of motion.

Thanks for the help. My vids are on "YOUTUBE’… type in “bunny7568” and they will pop up.

Usually just off the chest a couple of inches. I feel my elbows flair out when momentum fails, and then its a grind… if I do manage to get the bar moving again.

I seem to be stuck at 315/ 320 lbs.

It will be bad if that bar rolls out of your hands and lands on your neck! I’ve seen this happen twice. Not pretty. Use your thumbs. That’s why we have them!

When I start benching again, 305 was going to be my target to reach some day

Big slice out of my right index finger from fishing… ripped it open a couple of times, so I had to resort to using straps for the last couple of sets 'cuz people getting pissed I was bleeding all over the place.

I just told them it was time of the month, popped a couple of Midol, smeared some Monostat on the cut and carried on.

DEADLIFTS (M.E.)- no belt

RACKPULLS

BOX SQUATS
again, starting from scratch- new box/ bench- 13" in height- take a look at the vids- low enough? Form? really concentrated on getting the bar lower on traps, pushing elbows forward and the chest out. Used minimal weight, but still felt it in the glutes and hips.

135x8 sets of 3

I was gonna do abs and calves, but the voices in my head said not to.

Kinda took it easy today, lower intensity, give my CNS a break.

Want to work on form so as not to incur any (more) injuries before moving up in weight.

Lookin’ good big man!

Bunny, my new workout is going good. But I’m just 2 weeks into it. If you want the workout I’m using I’ll gladly give it to you.
The fundimentals of bench apply to any height and weight. Pinch sld blades, arch low back, push with feet, etc. Have a seasoned powerlifter watch you, even if you have to go to their gym or pay for them to come to yours.

Hmmm… I need practice, find that when I push with my feet my ass comes off the bench… not alot, but enough.

Thanks buddy… and thanks for the encouragement Skid…

Carried my 2 boys hockey bags(both at once) today for at least a football field. They have camp this week and next. Both will be on travel teams this season. Thought you would relate to this. I’m disappointed I played football instead of hockey. Its such a great sport and one you can play alomost you entire life.
