6/19/10
Hang squat cleans (1st from high, last two from low hang)
bar work
30kg x 2 x 3
45kg x 2 x 3
65kg x 3 x 3
70kg x 4 x 3
Hang snatches (1st from high, last two from low)
bar work
30kg x 2 x 3
40kg x 3 x 3
45kg x 4 x 3
Notes: Fairly good session tonight, but had to cut it short to go pick up paint and wrap up our new carpet order at Lowe’s. I bumped the weight up to 70kg on cleans for the top set and aside from one slip (caused by my neglecting to chalk up), my form is getting better. Good explosion on the snatches and technique was fairly decent as well. I’m curious to know what Kevin has planned for me on Sunday. Good times.

Damn, you got me. I’ve actually been eating Cheetos and drinking kool-aid instead of training. Do you want to see video of that?

You got me, I just wanted to see video of you, didn’t care what you were doing.

Hah, I knew I’d trick you into admitting that.

-Trained at Central Maryland Gold
Mobility work, stretching and some bar work for warm-ups
Hang snatches (from low position)
40kg x 3
50kg x 3
55kg x 3
60kg x 3
65kg x 3
70kg x 1/3 (lost bar forward at bottom position on first two, got third rep)
65kg x 3 (pooped, started arm pulling)
Hang cleans (from low position)
50kg x 3
60kg x 2 x 3
65kg x 2 x 2
70kg x 2 (easy)
Front squats
worked up to 100kg x 5 x 3
Notes: I was a little miffed that I couldn’t quite get those first two reps with 70kgs, but getting the third with good form made me feel better. Kevin had me drop down to 65 and do a set; unfortunately I was getting a little winded and started to get sloppy with the damn arm pulling. Shittiest part is that I knew I was doing it, yet did it anyway. We called it there on the snatches. Cleans were very smooth this session, no glaring problems there at all. Front squats were pretty easy, but fatigue was mounting and decided enough was enough.
I’ve been a bit lazy keeping up with my training log. Nothing too exciting to report. Been focusing mainly on the quick lifts.
Anyway, my last couple of sessions:
7/2/10
Snatch
bar work
30kg x 2 x 3
40kg x 2 x 3
45kg x 3 x 3
50kg x 2 x 3
55kg x 2 x 3
60kg x 5 x 3
High hang cleans
40kg x 2 x 2
50kg x 2 x 2
60kg x 2 x 2
65kg x 2 x 2
70kg x 4 x 2
80kg x 2
Front squats
80kg x 3
90kg x 3
100kg x 3
110kg x 3
Notes: Focused on getting good quality reps on the snatch today. Got on my toes a couple of times, but by and large everything felt pretty good. On the cleans, after my last double with 70, I wanted to see how 80 would feel. It was pretty damn easy and everything felt smooth.
7/4/10
Snatch
bar work
40kg x 2 x 2
45kg x 2 x 2
50kg x 2 x 2
55kg x 2
60kg x 3 x 2
65kg x 3 x 2
67.5kg x 2 x 2
70kg x 3 x 2
Clean (high hang/low hang)
40kg x 2
45kg x 2
50kg x 2
55kg x 2
60kg x 2
65kg x 3 x 2
70kg x 3 x 2
75kg x 4 x 2
Notes: Today was pretty good session, by and large. I goofed on a couple of reps, but Kevin thought everything looked pretty nice today. Explosiveness was good on the second pull and I generally made good bar contact. 70kg is the most I’ve ever snatched and to be honest it was pretty easy. Cleans felt good; was guilty of arm pulling a couple of times, but much less of an issue today.
My own experience of olympic lifting is limited to some inexpertly performed power cleans, but I’ve always thought it looks seriously good fun if you have a coach to guide you!
Are you still training the PL lifts, or is your focus solely on the quick stuff for now?
