Bragging With The Old Guys

As a fellow oldster, you gents can appreciate this: My 17 year old son just got accepted at Annapolis. He had a 34 on the ACT (top .5% of all test takers), National Merit Scholar, football player, Eagle Scout, perfect score on AP Physics test. He wants to be a Marine Corps officer.

I kind of hope he’ll be an officer on a nice safe aircraft carrier but…everyone’s got to choose their own path.

Oorah. i would have loved to go to Annapolis, but I wasn’t accepted. Congratulations to your son and you. I did serve 8 years in the Marines, though, and well-educated, intelligent adult supervision is always appreciated by enlisted Marines.
Congrats
Old Lardass

Pretty impressive kid! I’m a physicist, awesome to see physics in his skillset. I have two young boys who I expect will do well academically. I’m hoping to get them interested in athletics, too, it’s one reason I train. Congratulations!

Thanks MJ and Mark!

I think being on a team from early on is VERY beneficial to kids. That, and spending a lot of time with them. I think a lot of trouble with kids is no one paying attention to them, so they get attention by drinking, drugs, or getting pregnant. THEN their parents pay attention, which is bass ackwards.

I will agree with you, well stated. My daughter is apprenticing for fine wood working and then she’s headed for the Emily Carr School of Fine Art.

Support your children and they will amaze you with their brilliance.

Congratulations to your son for his achievments and to you for giving him the support he needed.

Thanks gents!

The hard part is the seperation. In a few months, he’s gone. And we are very close (he is a student where I teach).

I’ve heard that at the parting ceremony, the head of the Naval Academy says: “Alright parents, you have 30 seconds to make your goodbyes to your children. Then you must leave.”

That’s going to be tough.

Brag away. A real accomplishment. Congratulations to him and you. Kids don’t come out like that accidentally. Which ever service he ends up in I’m sure he’ll do great.
