i have had knives pulled on me a few times, one time i was shot at, had a chair hit me on my back, and a beer mug across my jaw.
no i never threw a punch, i have choked a few people out before, and one time i got isolated in a one on one situation with a 6’6" 255lb defensive lineman from the local college, where for about 10 minutes i got my ass kicked, until , at one point i began fearing for my life due to the beating i was taking, i jabbed my fingers in his eyes, and my thumb actually went all the way to the knuckle up his nose, that got him off of me, i then jumped on him from behind, and choked him until the police arrived, they had to mace me to get me to let go of him because i had gone a little crazy at that point.
this is all in a days work for the mighty balbo i am sure.
fuck, i wager he could come over here to the states and wipe out entire zip-codes if he woke up cranky.
listen, as an eastern European history buff, i don’t doubt growing up in the Balkans is a hell of a lot tougher than where i had to grow up, a different world no doubt.
but i am more than a little tired of his tough guy attitude. do a search of his posts, i am sure he has the record of making physical threats to people who disagree with him.
so you grew up in eastern Europe, that makes you tough, probably, but so what? take your lily white ass to downtown Baghdad and take that tough talk with you, you might end up on a video on the internet with your head getting slowly sawed off.

if you worked in some hell holes where there is very little law and order, fine, do what you have to do.
my philosophy was that if i started throwing punches, all i was was another thug getting into a street-fight with a drunk.
i thought it was better to control a situation rather than be a part of it. that usually meant wrestling them down, immobilizing them and waiting for the rest of the crew to show up and throw them out.
if they tried to come back in, we had off duty police officers stationed outside to arrest them.
the usa is a very litigious society, also we are a country of laws. for what i got paid as a bouncer it was not worth it in no shape or fashion to risk getting sued or put in jail by maiming somebody with a bat or stomping them in the head with my boots.

Well put. I’ve been bouncing on weekends for a bit over a year, enjoy it and it pays well, fringe benefits as others have said. It is a different ballgame working a pretty quiet bar or pub and a big club. Let alone working in a big city with all the shit that comes with it, that’s a whole other level.
And as others have said, size is an issue. I’m not huge, 6 foot, 210 on a good day, but I can get by where I am. But it’s not the Meatpacking District in Manhattan. One of the guys at our company is a kickboxer, has won tournaments in Thailand, could certainly beat the shit out of me and some of our bigger guys I’d bet.
But random drunks are also a lot more likely to start fights or push their luck with him, which isn’t what bar managers or club owners are looking for.
