Discuss.
Stupid plot, typical post apocalyptic setting, obvious ending and useless violence. I wanted to like this because everyone bashes faithy movies but this one was a stinker.

More detail please. Let’s start with the plot: why do you think it was stupid?
This movie is racist. Why does a black man have to wash with a KFC wetnap?
That was a joke BTW.
This was a good movie, had a real “Fallout 3” vibe to it. I liked it.

It was stupid…Because… I SAID SO.

Trick question! The correct answer was that Denzel killed Dr. Evil’s hench-cat Mr. Bigglseworth during the first five minutes of the movie.
Blind people can “see” surprisingly well using echolocation as the videos show. OK so Denzel wasn’t using echolocation, but as you can see, blind people are not nearly as disabled as people perceive them to be. What’s so hard to believe about him shooting someone accurately by just listening to where the gunshot came from? Or making eye contact by listening to their voice? Watch carefully and you’ll see several scenes where his blindness is pretty obvious.
On top of his super hearing he has divine intervention. I mean I guess if you don’t believe in divine intervention and lack the ability to suspend disbelief then maybe the movie seems stupid.

LOL! Just keeding, your hungryship. Book of Eli was a great watch. I don’t see how it was excessively preachy as there was very little actual ‘preaching’ in the movie.
It can’t be thrown into the ‘pro-religion’ pile either as religion was blamed for the war in the first place. Actually, mankind’s future interpretation of religious texts was responsible for the war, not the texts themselves (remember that this is a sci-fi, not current affairs), which is why Eli did everything he could to keep the “texts” to himself and deliver them into safe hands.
Man’s interpretation of religion led to the war which destroyed society, and religion collapsed as a consequence. Eli’s quest was basically pressing the reset button: restoring religion and civilization.
Carnegie was not religious as he had never been exposed to religion (born too late), but he was an educated man in a world of barbarians, and used those qualities to manipulate them and become a leader. He understood the value of religion as a manipulative tool and as a means to maintain that leadership. Man using religion for personal gain was how armageddon came about in the first place, and why Eli didn’t want anybody getting their mitts on the symbolic (though ultimately unreadable) leather-bound book.
Very intelligent and well crafted movie. But I still thought of Mr. Bigglesworth during the opening credits.
