I was doing work sets with over 500 in the gym at the time. Genetics. And training with guys that were not only on cycle but serious.
What’s a realistic goal for a guy like me? Is truly of thumb body weight or what?
Double BW for DL or squat is pretty respectable generally. 3 x BW is awesome. The odd thing is, I never trained any bench when competing SM. A lot of cleans and push presses, no bench at all for literally at least 5 or 6 years. I have a pic somewhere of me standing with Savickas. I look like a kid next to him, he was close to 400 lbs I think and I was competing as a lightweight (under 105 kg - which meant about 245 lbs on contest day)
When I got back into lifting 2.5 years ago, my working set Bench Press weight was 135lbs. Had no idea at that time I was low T. The best progress I made with clean diet and regular lifting for 2 years was 185lbs working set. Been on TRT for a little over 6 months now and my working set is 240lbs @ 3 sets X 6 reps.
How long after TRT start did you really notice the strength gains coming?
I’d say about 2 months in I started noticing an increase. Been pretty steady since then.
I wouldn’t say it’s just TRT though. I cleaned my diet up a lot…and got smarter about how I worked out. It’s a three legged stool brother. All three, diet, exercise, and hormones, have to be in balance. Any one leg being off will make the stool fall.
Once that balance happens the body can react in amazing ways.
Yeah my diet and exercise have been on point for quite some time (well over a year) so the TRT should be icing on the cake. My biggest issue is being patient, I know in my head this is a marathon but I want gains now, haha!
